VIRGINIA - The Electronic Benefit Transfer system malfunctioned across Virginia and several other states Saturday, but service was restored by around 10 p.m.
"It's just frustrating how I've been to several different stores right in around to get groceries for my family," said Jessica Perkins, an EBT customer.
Perkins has five kids she was grocery shopping for Saturday. Perkins went to Farm Fresh, Save-A-Lot, and Food Lion before figuring out she could use her EBT card at WalMart. Perkins said she could only use the $50 at a time.
"I just thank God that I have some type of provisions," she explained.

Replace “customer” with “leech.”
EBT service restored.
IT’S A MIRACLE!
This is a test of the Emergency Food Management System, repeat, this is only a test.
Oh goodie..now all is right with the world, the leaches can continue getting their freebies and the American taxpayer is still forced to have to pay for it
That "god" is government and the truth is your EBT card really has run out of other people's money. Your god is a thief. Birds of a feather...
However, the natives were without their welfare fix for a few hours and they were threatening to get restless.
Imagine no EBT for a couple of days. Or a week? Or two weeks? The cities would literally implode. Think about that.
And how hard would it be to cut off EBT to selected areas?
Data centers might be the new asymmetrical war targets.
Curious how one glitch took out so many States
An ABC News article referred to them as “clients”. Theives, parasites, bottom feeders all come to mind but “clients”? No, I don’t think so.
Yes it is, isn't it?
I am a computer developer by trade. I am here to assure you that no upgrades, no backups, no 'drills', no 'testing' like this happens on active-users-on-system time. These sort of things occur only on off-hours. All the explanations offered so far DO NOT MAKE ANY SENSE to this computer developer with over 20 years in the field.
Furthermore, such a large system is NOT centralized. A good data architecture would have many redundant copies in distributed servers, synched using normal synching tools. I've personally created much smaller systems with this redundancy and synching. Have you ever heard of an entire large portion of a banking system going down? An entire branch of a phone system? No, you have not. That is because any large and complex system has many different branches or nodes of operability. The concept that one mistake brings it all down -- or even a lot of it -- is impossible.
Locusts would be a better term.
I was just wondering how many roads one would have to block and for how long to starve a major city.
It’s suspicious, and I’m 100% certain they would never, ever tell us the system was taken down by hackers or some other attack.
One in six people in Illinois leech off of an EBT system. Ignoring the morality of stealing from your fellow citizens for the moment, that’s a very large number of people. I think it’s something on the order of 60 million people nationwide. We simply cannot cut off that many dependents. They will have to be weaned from dependency over time.
Not only that, but these EBT cards are a significant part of sales for businesses across the USA. The loss of that income overnight in our already feeble economy could prove catastrophic. I only hope we can dial this down slowly before it comes apart in the worst way.
We simply can’t afford to keep doing what we’ve been doing (and promising) whether we want to or not.
I walked into a mostly deserted grocery store this afternoon. I was greeted by an employee that informed me that my EBT would not be accepted.
I shrugged my shoulders because I don’t use EBT.
Almost immediately, my “Spidey Senses” kicked in.
Martial law would be declared and the national guard would be handing out MREs. The plan is in place.
Obama and the people who control him have the means to shut down the system. They’re just waiting for the right time.
OMG - her card was not working so she went to 5 different stores??? How stupid can one person be?
