“”Are you an American and support the Constitution “
I support the constitution, Lincoln didn’t, therefore you don’t.
Lincoln felt that the freemen would be better off returned to Africa or colonies in South America or some such. He didn’t feel that blacks and whites could live together peacefully. Wonder where he got a crazy idea like that?
The Little Dummy Who Cried Racist.
“Emancipation Proclamation said that the slaves were free but did not have the authority to free them didnt it?”
The EP freed nobody. It did not apply to any state or territory that had not seceded, and even then it did not apply to the slaves in those areas of the seceded states that were under federal control. In the states over which there was no federal control there was no legal authority to enforce it. Thus, the EP freed no one.
Delaware still had slaves at the time the EP was passed, though not a great many.
Well Delaware was a border state and technically considered a part of the Union.
Rangel needs to get real...
Actually, Delaware was NOT considered a border state, and it was firmly in the Union camp. Maryland and Kentucky were the accepted Border States, as they did not secede; and arguably Missouri, as well (which was divided on the issue), as it did not secede, either.
They were just forcefully removing barrycades ;)
You have a point about Delaware. Some considered it a border state, and some did not. It was, though, a slave state that did not secede, and it did commit to the Union rather than try to remain neutral. Most consider the Border states to have been neutral; hence, Delaware would not under that criterium be considered a Border state.
Rangel has less credibility than the democrat KKK.
Two months before the end of the Civil War Delaware voted on February 18, 1865 to reject the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution and so voted unsuccessfully to continue slavery beyond the Civil War. Delaware symbolically ratified the amendment on February 12, 190140 years after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Slavery ended in Delaware only when the Thirteenth Amendment took effect in December of 1865. Delaware also rejected the 14th amendment during the Reconstruction Era. It seems that even though Delaware appeared to be in the Union camp it’s sympathies were with the South.
“It seems that even though Delaware appeared to be in the Union camp its sympathies were with the South.”
Funny the way it showed that, eh?
No, the southern democrats threw out the Constitution, seceded, fired the first shot. They removed themselves from any Constitutional rights. Lincoln brought them back under the Constitution. Seems that some like you still support the democrat party’s confederate experiment. The crisis at hand has everything to do with restoring the Constitution and the Republic (yes, that’s Lincoln’s Republic) and has nothing to do with your pathetic lost cause.
