Obama Has Already Won The Shutdown Fight And He’s Coming For Immigration Next
BuzzFeed ^ | 10/15/13 | Evan McMorris-Santoro

Immigration reform advocates plan an aggressive campaign to bring the issue back — and the White House has signaled it’s on board. Can Obama emerge from the fiscal crisis with enough momentum to win the immigration fight?

As the fiscal fight roiling Washington nears its end, the White House is already signaling that it plans to use the political momentum it has gained during the shutdown fight to charge back into the immigration debate. And this time, Democratic pollsters and advocates say, they could actually win.

The final chapter of the current crisis hasn’t been written yet, but Democrats in Washington are privately confident that they’ll emerge with the upper hand over the conservatives in Congress who forced a government shutdown. And sources say the administration plans to use its victory to resurrect an issue that was always intended to be a top priority of Obama’s second-term agenda.

Advocates argue the post-fiscal crisis political reality could thaw debate on the issue in the House, which froze in earlier this year after the Senate passed a bipartisan immigration bill that was led by Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer.

“It’s at least possible with sinking poll numbers for the Republicans, with a [GOP] brand that is badly damaged as the party that can’t govern responsibly and is reckless that they’re going to say, ‘Alright, what can we do that will be in our political interest and also do tough things?’” said Frank Sharry, executive director of the immigration reform group America’s Voice. “That’s where immigration could fill the bill.”

This sounds like wishful thinking on the liberals part. I’m thinking Rubio doesn’t want to revisit the topic! LOL

Thinking this budget/debt limit fight is over hasn’t passed the smell test with our revolutionary conservative congressmen. Boehner can’t do anything without them; neither can the Senate.

They need to hold out until Obama is forced to publically say he can’t pay the EBT bills and cuts them off.

Rubio may not have to...it has already passed the senate. The house is a mess and who knows what will happen there if they decide to take up immigration again. tea party house members need to hold the line.

The republican establishment may very well never win another election again regardless of what they do on immigration. We will either go back to our constitutional roots or we will suffer under the tyranny of a global communist dictator.

Obama can use that team in the Senate who is helping crafting this CR/debt limit surrender bill, Collins, etc, for another amnesty bill.

But he is running out of time.

~and the right will point to Obamacare in a few months when it is in full swing bleeding people’s money and say, “We tried to stop this.”

I learned a very long time ago as a young manager in a company:

You can mess with people in any way you wish, but once you mess with THEIR money, THEIR income, you are dead in the water.

Obamacare isn’t free. That was the insinuation that the left floated. They never said it was free but claimed it would be far better than anything current. Now those who bought this lie are finding that they, not OPM which they would have gladly accepted, will be paying and paying and paying.

The article is right.

I am still fuming at the Deal watch: Just the “I”s and “T”s left? 'analysis' by conservative pundit(s). And "our" politicians.

All of a sudden, "The best way to beat ObamaCare now is to make sure everyone has an unobstructed view of its implementation and costs." meme popping up everywhere. The best way is to let everyone lose their freedom so that the sheeple will learn a thing or two. WTF!!!!

2007 George W. Bush at 37% approval - dead in the water, presidency is over, lame duck, a drag on his party.

2013 Obama at 37% approval - Momentum! In charge! Beloved by the people! Republican's dare not oppose!

This is pure disinformation and propaganda. That Communist media and Communist Democratic Party spin machine is spinning out of control and is about to spin into outer space.

“They need to hold out until Obama is forced to publically say he can’t pay the EBT bills and cuts them off.”

He’s already said that SS will be cut off.

They need to hold until they get the concessions that they’ve asked for, and I’m talking about some measly medical device tax cut.

He can’t shut off SS. There is an income flow to the fund regardless of shutdown or not, 12.4% of every paycheck in America, in fact. He’s talking out his ass.

What he does not have funds for, however are all the entitlements that make up the EBT system. He hasn’t submitted a budget that has been approved by Congress in 5 years. These payments are all unbudgeted and illegal DEBT in my opinion, unlike SS.

In this case holidays are coming up, and they know next year is out as its election year.

Obamam will lecture congress on TV to pass amnesty but if amnesty isnt passed in the next few weeks the government wont shut down and the markets wont dive, Obama's club is a small stick compared to this past fight.

Its not a crisis.

The CR fight at least ate up time.

good. it’s massive, ego-fueled, narcissistic step too far. they will blow themselves up.

the public is dumbed down to the point that they can be misled by the obamites sound bites/lies about the semi-complicated issues behind the gov’t shutdown and the debt. but they understand immigration.

But that’s a farce as well. The fed takes in what 3 trillion annually? They CAN pay for it.

All of that is irrelevant though. I think you know damned well he will use EBT, SS, Medicare, etc. to scare the crap out of whomever he can.

He won’t use SS IMO. He will use EBT and all the others, but he’ll be sued if he doesn’t pay out on SS. It will backfire on him.

BTW, yes there is $3T/income per year, but the outflows are over $3.7-$4T. The difference being all those unbudgeted entitlements. This doesn’t even include the $85B/month the Federal Reserve creates to buy T-Bills and Stocks each month.

They CAN pay for LEGAL debt, but they can’t pay for illegal unbudgeted, unauthorized debt.

He’s already said SS recipients won’t get checks

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/12/obama-social-security-checks-debt-ceiling_n_895831.html

and if a president is willing to harm americans purposefully as he’s done in the sequester, I don’t think we should underestimate him.

Like I said, he may SAY it, but he won’t do it, not as long as there is enough of the 12.4% contributions coming in.

He (actually, Congress) really only has an option for that amount in excess of that required to pay the SS outlays.

If he did this, he’d find himself smack in the middle of an injunction by some Federal Judge....the third rail lobby is vicious, even more vicious than the EBT lobby (for which he has no legal basis to pay).

that is dead in the water, unless of course he adds it to the mix for the resumed “negotiations” in January. if so, we cave, he gets it... what else is new..

he holds the g*n to our head...says we are holding the gun.. then gets his way.... rinse repeat.

In other words, they’ve reached some deal with Boehner to have him pass this stuff with Dem votes and then ease him into a cushy lobbying job next year.

Really? S.S. is ‘legal’ and, as such, able to be tacked upon the debt (Oops, more like into the ‘unfunded liabilities’ column...but I digress)?

‘Gov’t can provide’ for your retirement but can’t do the same for your ‘healthcare’? Does not compute.
