Chances are good that you or someone you know recently purchased groceries, talked to a mechanic or opened a medical bill and felt a pang of existential dread so visceral that it triggered a physical sickness.
This is what it means to be alive in America in 2013. To work hard, always do the right thing and still commute home at the end of the day under a charcoal cloud of professional uncertainty, political harakiri and increasingly unfathomable “service fees” visa-vis your monthly cable bill.
Yet the incomprehensibly rich NFL team owners are busy crafting a neat little narrative for you, the fan: They need more of your tax dollars to build their lavish stadiums.
Not that you haven’t already been generous. Since 1923, 186 professional sports stadiums have been built at a cost of $53 billion. Taxpayers have chipped in to the tune of $32 billion — 61 percent of the total.

Okay, I can understand the whole travel budget thing, but really, Going to the Superbowl, no matter where it’s played is an expense most of us would plan and save for if we could ever afford to do it at all. As for northern teams being accustomed to the cold, hell man, I bet they would be drooling at the prospect of playing in Miami or San Diego instead of some frozen north gulag.

Actually northern teams are built differently physically due to the climate - true of NFL teams too. There’s a reason beyond fan base for home field advantage and its rare the southern teams go north. I have known big linemen who play better in the cold then the heat and its due to build not stamina.
Those soccer teams in Europe, Manchester United, Real Madrid, they may revamp the stadiums but they rarely build brand new stadiums. Something is wrong with this picture. Although I enjoy the NFL, I’d vote down any stadium deal if I were in a position to. That said, some of those stadiums still serve multiple purposes, it would be something to study as well.
One case where Rush may not be right, I wish he were, he’s saying the concussions will shut down the NFL or at least, they’ll take out kickoffs and it will become a namby-pamby game.
Actually caught a CFL game the other night. That might be the way to go, it’s probably almost as good as the NFL. They only have about 8 or 10 teams.
A pretty idle threat, since L.A.'s not going to build them a stadium, either. They've been trying for at least fifteen years, but there's simply no support for spending a dime of government money for another sports team.
