Rush on Medicaid could spell trouble for ObamaCare’s health
fox news ^ | 10/25/2013 | By Judson Berger

While virtually all the ObamaCare focus is trained on the program's dysfunctional website, another problem could be emerging -- in states where individuals are able to sign up, far more are enrolling in Medicaid than private plans.

For now, the statistics are spotty. The Obama administration still hasn't provided figures on how many people have successfully enrolled through the federally run exchanges. Some, but not all, states have provided their own relatively up-to-date figures.

But for those that have, the lopsided numbers show Medicaid is getting the lion's share of enrollees.

In Washington state, more than 35,000 people have signed up for coverage since Oct. 1. Of them, just 4,500 went into private plans. Roughly 31,000 signed up for Medicaid -- with coverage kicking in sometime between now and Jan. 1.

The director of the state's Health Care Authority said they were "pleased by the strong response of Medicaid-eligible residents."

But the imbalance -- if it does not even out in the months to come -- could create problems for private insurance companies which are relying on a major influx of new and healthy customers to make the system hum.

That’s the idea. Single payer healthcare. Medicaid is the door that will open to it.

These people have a printing press, and they know how to use it. I don’t believe they have any concern about additional people signing up for Medicaid. It only guarantees them more Democrat votes in future elections, which has been their goal all along.

Exactly. And now these people will be asked to vote absentee, wrecking to the core our electoral system.

This is incorrect unless you only count the private plan enrollees who have paid for their plans over two months in advance. Who pays for things before the bill is due?

The more reasonable count shows more people having enrolled in non-Medicaid plans than in Medicaid, but not yet paid, by a small margin.

at some point the dollar will crash and it all will come to a halt.

Speed doesn’t kill, it’s the sudden stops that’ll get ya.

They are simply picking up speed to the crash.

Isn’t Medicaid already about broke?

How can it withstand this surge?

Relax....we can just tax the rich.

Maybe the “crash” is what they wanted all along? Nationalize everything, declare martial law and shred the Constitution to ensure that “The People” keep getting their welfare checks & EBT cards.

While it's nice to see Fox covering it, watching CBS do so is positively delicious.

True. But the expectation was for a relatively gradual decline occurring until so much time had passed that there was no way to roll back to the previous way of doing things AND a credible political argument could be made that "well, we tried going halfway, and that doesn't work either, so we NEED single payer.

We're not talking gradual decline here. We are talking rapid, even immediate, collapse of the system. At a time when the collapse can be firmly pegged on the government's intrusion into market economics.

The ACA includes a Medicare expansion. More people are now eligible that were not before.

Yeah, if Rush lost so much of his wealth to be forced into Medicaid, we’d all be screwed :-D

“The ACA includes a Medicare expansion. More people are now eligible that were not before.”

Plus many uninsured low income people who can’t afford insurance likely fear being in violation of the new law if they don’t sign up for Medicaid and remain uninsured.
