A year after losing a presidential race many Republicans thought was winnable, the party arguably is in worse shape than before. The GOP is struggling to control tensions between its tea party and establishment wings and watching approval ratings sink to record lows.

It’s almost quaint to recall that soon after Mitt Romney lost to President Barack Obama, the Republican National Committee recommended only one policy change: endorsing an immigration overhaul, in hopes of attracting Hispanic voters.

That immigration bill is now struggling for life and attention in the Republican-run House. The bigger worry for many party leaders is the growing rift between business-oriented Republicans and the GOP’s more ideological wing. Each accuses the other of bungling the debt ceiling and government shutdown dramas, widely seen as a major Republican embarrassment. …

Quite the contrary. Next year we may remove from power, the minority leader and whip of the senate, and also the Speaker of the House and his lieutenants.

We have found someone who fearlessly fights the democrats (Cruz) and the democrats have been thwarted on the Sequester, Gun Control, Immigration (so far) and Obamacare.

We’re facing a stark choice. Either we change the direction in which the country is moving, or we run off the cliff.

The way I see it, the Tea Party is the only significant force trying to slow down our head-long rush into disaster. Truthfully, I expect them to fail. And I expect them to destroy the GOP in the process. But for them to succeed is our only possible future that doesn’t involve massive societal destruction. So it’s a long shot, but at this point it’s our only option.

If they succeed, the GOP will be fine, and the country will be better off. If they fail, the GOP will be destroyed, and that will be so small a part of our problems that no one will notice.

Contrary to spin, Romneycare had almost nothing to do with obamacare. Here are the differences: Romneycare was applicable to only to one state. Obamacare is a one size fits all approach for the entire nation (in violation of the 10th Amendment). Romney care was EXTREMELY limited in scope. At the time Romneycare was passed in MA, only 8% of the people in that state lacked health coverage. Romneycare impacted only them, not the 92% already covered. Yes, Romneycare did in fact mandate everyone in the state have health coverage-—states CAN do this-—they do require all drivers to obtain auto insurance. For those who could not afford health insurance, Romneycare REDIRECTED funds ALREADY allocated to the state through Medicaid to help lower income people purchase private health insurance. Romneycare received permission from the GWB Administration to reallocate these funds ALREADY appropriated to the state through the Medicaid program. Romneycare therefore got almost everyone in MA covered WITHOUT raising taxes or increasing the size of government....which is far more than we could ever say about Obamacare. Romneycare was extremely LIMITED in scope. It was only applicable to the few people in MA who lacked coverage and who were gaming the system——walking into hospitals, receiving care and treatment, then leaving the taxpayers and rate payers stuck with the bill.

Contrary to YOUR spin, RomneyCare was the pre-cursor to Obamacare and shares two of it's most objectionable features from a limited-government, conservative perspective:

1. You are FORCED to buy it, or pay a fine (Individual Mandate).
2. You are forced to subsidize someone else's Health Care. In effect, they, at the point of a gun, demand you give your money to someone else.

Records show that Mitt Romney aides met a dozen times with the White House to discuss health care reform, according to reports that are sure to refocus attention on the similarities between Obamacare and Romneycare. The Massachusetts health care plan Romney signed into law was an inspiration for the federal legislation, signed by Barack Obama, that the Republican frontrunner has pledged to have repealed.

Romney had about 20% of the Republican primary vote all the way through the primaries. The other 80% was split among the truck-load of conservatives and faux-conservatives who so desperately needed their own personal public crash-n-burn experience.

Romney lost because he could not articulate any conservative message, mostly because such would be a foreign language for him. The same problem sunk McCain, damaged Bush severely in 2000 and 2004, sunk Dole, sunk Bush I, and sunk Ford.

Crony corruption is not free-market capitalism; it is not "severely conservative"; it does not appeal to the 80% of Republican voters who rejected Romney throughout the primaries; and it is not part of the Republican Party Platform.

The bigger worry for many party leaders is the growing rift between business-oriented Republicans and the GOP’s more ideological wing.

Constitutional conservatives are all for business-oriented, free market, common sense economic policies that are good for all businesses, large and small, and good for individuals of all sizes, shapes, and colors.

Wrong. The states (NOT the feds) CAN and DO mandate we purchase insurance. Here in CA where I live and every other state I have ever lived in, the STATES CAN and DO require drivers to obtain auto insurance. If they can do that with auto insurance, they can do that with health insurance. People do NOT have the right to walk into a hospital, receive care and treatment and leave the taxpayers stuck with the bill.

No, because that’s a violation of the guarantee clause of Article 4 of the US Constitution. A socialist form of government is the antithesis of a republican form of government.
