The USS Gerald R. Ford is the lead ship in the Navy’s next class of aircraft carriers. It was christened Saturday at the Newport News shipyard where it was built.

The Ford class represents the first new aircraft carrier design in more than 40 years. Among other things, it will be able to launch jets faster than previous aircraft carriers and will require fewer crew members. The Navy anticipates that having fewer crew members on board will save $4 billion over the ship’s 50-year life span.

For only a brief moment, let us all harken back to the halcyon days in which America ruled supreme at the very pinnacle of all its preeminent glory, power and prestige, to escape the harsh, sobering reality in which America continues to be diminished in shameless, unabated manner.

We all have this intense fantasy in which we somehow persevere through this horrifically surreal existence in which we find ourselves in, to have finally arrived to the long awaited moment when we will be set free to undo that which has been meticulously unleashed upon us all to elicit maximum irrevocable damage but that which I fear we might have already crossed the Rubicon in regard to a return to an earlier age of American strength and vitality, global supremacy.

I shudder to think how in the tradition of naming navy ships after former US presidents, even Carter has a submarine named after him, of the day when a naval vessel gets named USS Zero.

The Navy already having done enough to shame itself in the naming of a ship after one as infamous and ignominious as that of which is cited below, nothing would surprise me.

CNN:May 18, 2011:Navy Names Ship After Labor Activist Cesar Chavez

The U.S. Navy has named one of its newest ships after Mexican-American labor organizer Cesar Chavez, officials said Wednesday.

The decision was an ideal fit for the latest in the Lewis and Clark class of ships, which bear the names of legendary pioneers and explorers, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus said in a statement.

I’m just glad it’s not named the USS Harvey Milk.

Obama’s should be a garbage scow.

You know it's going to happen. Probably before he's dead and maybe before Clinton gets one named for him.

It`s nice to know that the U.S. Navy still uses a Christian term
[christen = to baptize]
to launch its ships
instead of Allahu Akbar...

Frankly, naval ship naming is a soup sandwich.

No ship should be named after anyone who hasn’t been dead for 50 years, or awarded the Medal of Honor. Certainly not after a politician tha that hasn’t been dead for 50 years.

That said, capital ships shouldn’t be name after people at all.

Obama could have one of those Port a Potty suction pumps named after him and it would be an insult to the pump.

What most people do not realize is Cesar Chavez was a great supporter of border control. He was primarily a union organizer of field workers. He realized that an influx of illegals would depress the wage scale of his United States Citizens union members.

If Ceasar Chavez had of been successful we might be paying $1.50 for a head of lettuce but would not have 30 million illegals in our nation that are draining the social welfare system day after day after month after year.

I vote for lettuce that is $1.50 and no illegals! It is worth the price.

I heard a crazy story(urban legend?) about a traditional Marine birthday dash that happens in D.C. at night with a drunk Marine in a naked sprint to touch the White House columns while Secret Service agents aim to block that from occurring. Any truth to this story?

If and when the name a ship the Obama it will be called the biggest naval ship ever. But like its namesake it will be a rowboat and it will be another lie just like he is.

Your whole post was very sensible. And since the fleet carriers are today's capital ships, it might be a good idea to name them after the states.
