Fouad Ajami: When the Obama Magic Died
Wall Street Journal ^ | Nov 14, 2013 | Fouad Ajami

Posted on 11/15/2013 1:48:36 AM PST by Innovative

The current troubles of the Obama presidency can be read back into its beginnings. Rule by personal charisma has met its proper fate. The spell has been broken, and the magician stands exposed. We need no pollsters to tell us of the loss of faith in Mr. Obama's policies—and, more significantly, in the man himself.

If Barack Obama seems like a man alone, with nervous Democrats up for re-election next year running for cover, and away from him, this was the world he made. No advisers of stature can question his policies; the price of access in the Obama court is quiescence before the leader's will. The imperial presidency is in full bloom.

he tends to whistle his words

That whistle on his "s" words drives me crazy. I hate to listen to him. His smug look drives me crazy. I hate to watch him. His continual failure to take the blame for bad or illegal decisions and his taking credit for things he didn't do drives me crazy. I hate to listen, watch, or read anything he says.

President Barack Hubris Obama was allowed, and even encouraged, by his hopeful black and white democrats, news media, and race pimps to get away with anything he wanted. He's like the bad boy of a rich family who is always let off the hook not matter what trouble he gets into or whatever laws he breaks.

Then, one day, he does something so obviously stupid/evil that everyone involved says, "Enough!"

Trust frays between Obama, Democrats

EXCERPT: “The Obamacare debacle has been bad enough that it’s tough for Democrats to take on faith that the president can fix the problems. His one-time allies are no longer sure that it’s wise to follow him into battle, leaving Obama and his law not only vulnerable to existing critics, but open to new attacks from his own party.”

I work with blacks that voted for him because he was black; everyone else voted for him for money. He bought re-election with freebies, and those freebies will drag down our economy for the foreseeable future; nobody will have the political will to retract them.

Democrats, and the media particularly, used up every bit of capital they ever had in protecting this man from honest scrutiny and accountability. They exhibited ideological and racial hypocrisy, duplicity and outright lying from the very moment this pretender came on scene.

I remember a phrase so trumpeted in 2008, “We are the answer we have been looking for.” Now that has become their epitaph. For the ‘vulnerable’ Democrats now and the media I have this one recommendation. Put that on your electoral and editorial headstones. You deserve it.

Thanks for posting. Good read. Obama reminds me of a scene from Schindler’s List:

Itzhak Stern: Let me understand. They put up all the money. I do all the work. What, if you don’t mind my asking, would you do?

Oskar Schindler: I’d make sure it’s known the company’s in business. I’d see that it had a certain panache. That’s what I’m good at. Not the work, not the work... the presentation.

Ha ha....me too! You know? You often hear that same thing with people who have bad fitting false teeth.

I actually heard a pundit/operative/reporter say once that the sibilant S's he has are a sign of extreme intelligence. Can you believe that? Although, I do seem to remember once where inbred European Royalty of yore often spoke in the same manner......

Exactly. Wow, who could have foreseen all this? Hitting my head...I could have had V-8! Duh! I ain’t saying I’m the smartest gal in the room, but gosh some people sure are dumb! Too bad the country’s all jacked up now beyond recognition.

“Not me. I have never heard more than a single word from the scum bag. I mute him immediately.”

Back when Obama wanted to speak to the schoolchildren, my wife and I told their principal that our children wouldn’t be in school that day. He assured us they had no intention of having the students watch him, and they didn’t; many white Americans regard Obama as the president only of black people. Given his total disregard for the white middle class, I concur with them.

Yeah Mom,
Well you state what he isn’t,
I can’t say what he bastard really is or I’ll get put in time out and get visited by some of his goons.

The Democrats have marched in lock step with this president and are responsible for the lost of millions of health care coverage and the soon to be experience of astronomical higher premiums. And with each false “reprieve” it only worsen the situation. The health insurance mess is only starting. The worst is still yet to come.

I’d say the magic is gone.

Nice article. Like Rush says, if the media makes you, it can break you, although I don’t see too many in the media turning.

Rule by personal charisma has met its proper fate.

I never saw any charisma in the man. I always saw arrogant condescension. His body language reeks of a strong sense of superiority--look how he always looks down at people, how he tilts his head back so as to give the impression he is looking down even at people as tall or taller than himself.

Contrast that to GW Bush, who always looks *at* people, and lowers himself to their level when they are shorter than him. He obviously looks at others as his equal, not as serfs there to do his bidding.

Looking down one's nose at people is very much a part of the liberal psyche; I have seen this behavior many times. I wonder if the liberals who are on the receiving end of this behavior see it in some warm and fuzzy way? Like they interpret it as a loving father placing them in the role of his children, or something? Even that interpretation marks the behavior as highly condescending.

Obama speaks in an annoying, clipped monotone that drives me up the wall. And yes, that whistling is really annoying.
