New GOP strategy on ObamaCare: Let it burn
Hot Air ^ | November 21, 2013 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 11/21/2013 7:38:13 AM PST by Hotlanta Mike

After the government shutdown over ObamaCare fizzled in mid-October, people wondered whether the GOP would try the same strategy again in early 2014 to force an end to the ACA. The Hill reports that the House and Senate Republican caucuses are now united in dumping that strategy. Instead, the GOP will simply allow ObamaCare to unfold as Democrats planned:

Ah, maybe the GOP-e ought to read FR more often. This is a strategy I and others have looong proposed. ObamaCare is toxic and combustible. It is now on fire. When the tens of millions get canceled next fall ObamaCare will be a wholly involved catastrophic fire. Let it burn to the ground and let the dolts who voted for Obama feel the pain of the Marxism they so longed for!

I wonder if they should overturn the Administrative fiats that are trying to delay the pain until after the election.

since insurance as we know it will no longer exist.

That may be a blessing in disguise if the opponents of Obamacare play their cards right.

Let in Burn! That will happen. Now we need to Impeach Holder and keep everyone “too busy” to work on the 2014 Elections. Investigate everything, if for no other reason than to keep the pressure on BO and his cronies.

Don’t give them any time. The Rats will use time to prop it up with a hodgepodge of fixes.

Bring it to a head now. Overwhelm the Rats. No delays. No delays. No delays.

I think the time is right for several votes.
-undo union exemption
-undo Congress extra subsidies
-undo ins co bailouts for losses
-make sure 0bama cannot make further changes w/out Congress [or he may just delay emp mandate again for example]

one a week or so. don’t let up on pressure to vote on these.

Make one easy to get a vote. And when any of them go thru, make sure something was changed. Then when it goes back to the House, pull out the whole bill and replace it with a full repeal bill. Deem it passed by senate. Pass in house and it’s done - just like they did it. LOFL

United Health Care stock continues to rise. The largest health insurance company doesn’t seem to be suffering as a result. Does the market expect a bailout for them? Do they still expect to see record numbers of new policies written? Why is there stock going up?

As reported on Fox News this morning, the software to pay the insurance companies has not been built yet, so technically NO ONE has completed the insurance purchasing aspect of Obamacare.

That is astounding, to think that only 7% of people like Obamacare as it is. Heck, more people than that think Elvis is still alive somewhere, in polls on that subject. This is an astoundingly low amount of support for Obamacare.

Which means that even among liberals, there is strong support for changing things. I realize they will never vote for a clean repeal of Obamacare, but, there will be support even among Democrats to make changes.

AMEN!

I’ve been saying this for quite a while.

Make Bammy put back all his waivers and exemptions and make sure they go in effect January 1.
You’ll see a tidal wave GOP win after 11 months of original recipe Bammycare. Delaying it a year means nobody get to feel the pain prior to the election.

If the GOP has any sense at all, Upton and the rest will
run away from any ‘fixes’ as fast as possible

Democrat extremists shut down the government. They held the country hostage to their zealous demands that the ill-prepared Obamacare be funded or that nothing be funded.

The Democrats own the Obamacare shutdown.

I’m not sure about this. I agree with Cruz that it doesn’t make sense to try and defund.

But I think it could make sense for Republicans in the House to keep voting for bills to repeal it, and keep sending them to Reid in the Senate.

Doing so will force the Democrats to continuously go on record to vote against repeal, and position the Republicans as fighting for the American people.

I think that could be a great strategy for the mid-terms, in addition to putting Republicans on the right side of the issue for everyone to see.

It’s a delicious irony that Obamacare is collapsing under it’s own weight (aided by some of the more myopic partisan democrat hucksters who can’t seem to stop pouring gasoline on the fire) - and in the process doing what ever Republican but Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Rand Paul and a few others were unwilling to do.

But in the end two things will be clear:

1. Who (see above list) saw this coming and were the only ones who had the courage to stand up and say so, way before it was cool do do so.

2. The ramifications of this failure will be broader than just healthcare. The ineptitude and cluelessness (not to mention outright lying and deceipt) have now hit every American in the pocketbook. The populace may, by and large, be slow to “get it” but they’ll “get” this.

Where we may disagree is over what Repbublicans propose. Conservatives (not to be confused with Republicans) should look at government as the problem, not the solution. We don’t need a “Republican Plan”, we need government the hell OUT of healthcare.

Does anyone REALLY think the present crowd of Republicans (including the above, plus McCain, Ryan, McConnell, Graham, et al) could come up with a “plan” that would be all that much better?

The pain will begin to be felt next OCTOBER when companies turn on Insurance Enrollment, so this will happen right before the elections. May be a perfect storm in terms of timing.

Absolutely correct.

“I consider that theory the ‘Bad Samaritan’ theory. Basically, inflict a bunch of harm on the American people and hope we benefit politically from it. What a terrible, cynical approach. I am not interested in seeing the American people suffer just because my party might benefit politically if they blame the Democrats for the foolish policies that have been imposed.” – Senator Ted Cruz

Actually I think both strategies were correct. The Ted Cruz speech which launched the defund/delay Obamacare strategy and gave Obama an opportunity to shut down the government was the right thing to do.

Reason 1: It was morally correct.
Reason 2: It established in the minds of the American public that the GOP is firmly on the side of Obamacare Repeal.
Reason 3: The damage to the GOP brand was minimal despite the rantings of the MSM and the Dems.

And the current strategy of letting it roll is also correct.

Reason 1: The GOP is actually helpless to make any real changes in the law.
Reason 2: The Obvious - Why stop a Dem Train Wreck.
