The cop is telling us it’s more important he gets to go home at the end of his watch than the safety of anybody who isn’t a cop.
Myu understanding is it is illegal to concealed carry in Texas unless you have a permit.
Shall Issue state for permits.
There was also a 3 county rule, you were permitted to carry a pistol in your car for self defense without a permit, if you were on the way to a pistol range, or intending to travel three counties. (your own, through a second, and with a destination in a third)
Yes, of course—but there are rules on how they must be carried....It’s a bit hard to conceal a long gun on your person.
As has been pointed out, they must be enclosed in a case.
IOW—if you need it quickly to defend yourself, you might be up Pete’s Creek.

Open carry of a long gun is legal in Tx. The 2nd Amendment guarantees it anyway.
The incident you are referring to is a travesty and yes I can fault the Police for “enforcing the law” because they are not enforcing the written law. The are however making sure everybody is scared to exercise the law.
So yes, I shall find fault where it is deserved. You sir are far to quick to submit.
I'm fairly certain the rifle in question was not capable of firing more than one round upon a single pull of the trigger (eg automatic fie) - and therefore NOT an assault rifle.
This is not about concealed carry, that’s a separate issue.
This sounds like some of the Open Carry Texas group that has been active around Arlington.
C.J.Grisham’s group.

that may be, the media portrayed it as an “assault rifle”
They have a leftist agenda. They obscure facts and try to classify justify any weapon as an "assault rifle," just like their leftist masters.
It's why when asked what was the definition of an "assault rifle" Fineswine replied she'd 'know one when she saw one.'
If Arlington is an open carry city, then I missed that in the article. Then of course the cops were in the wrong. I may tend to give the cops the benefit of the doubt. Funny how there is just as much anti-cop attitude on conservative sites as the liberal ones. Perhaps sir you are to quick to judge
Probably is the same group. They are correct. If you don’t use the right you lose it. It’s also true if you use the right you might lose it. Who knows.
However the 2nd Amendment is clear on the subject, and The Texas Constitution defers to the Bill of Rights specifically.
In small town news markets as mine, I don’t see that much bias, but yes, they may have used the swinefine observation in this case.
The Cops deserve scrutiny, skepticism and every form of restraint.
The Cops have long abused their privileged station and their ears need to be trimmed. Sir.
Actually, I just did some research—some “authorities” say they must be cased, others don’t.
I think he had the right of it.

perhaps your experiences differ from mine. Until my experiences force me to change my opinion, I will continue to give law enforcement the benefit of the doubt.
