In the first place, genuine free trade doesn’t require a treaty (or its deformed cousin, a “trade agreement”; ... If the establishment truly wants free trade, all it has to do is to repeal our numerous tariffs, import quotas, anti-“dumping” laws, and other American-imposed restrictions on trade. There would not be free trade if only the US eliminated all tariffs, restrictions, etc. It's hard to see how one would motivate other countries to do the same without some sort of negotiated agreement.

How about "don't do business with them?" Not doing business with a foreign country would be the same as imposing a trade restriction on them. The article and some of the posters were encouraging the unilateral dropping of all trade restrictions.
Also, in order to "not do business" with a foreign country, you have to get all businesses on our side to abide by this policy. What is going to stop individual businesses from importing cheap goods from a foreign country, even when that country has high tariffs that restrict our exports?
