Four people were killed and 63 injured when a Metro-North commuter train derailed Sunday morning in the Bronx, officials said.

All of the train’s seven cars came off the curved track about 100 feet north of the Spuyten Duyvil station around 7:20 a.m., MTA officials said. One car came to rest feet from the water.

It is interesting how relative things are, really. She will take the Megabus tomorrow morning, she got her ticket the minute we realized she would need one since I would imagine the Megabus is sold out now - for today almost certainly, although they may have added some buses.

Pray for the Megabus as well.

Those are not accident free either.

There was a nasty accident in Syracuse involving one of those a few years back.

When stationed at West Point I used to take that line into the city. It was a bit expensive but convenient and the views are oh so pretty.

Prayers to all involved.

Oh, when living in NY I remember looking up the name of the station, this is what I found on Wiki:

The area is named after Spuyten Duyvil Creek, where "Spuyten Duyvil" literally means "Spouting Devil" or Spuitende Duivel in Dutch; a reference to the strong and wild tidal currents found at that location. It may also be translated as "Spewing Devil" or "Spinning Devil", or more loosely as "Devil's Whirlpool" or "Devil's Spate."

National Transportation Safety Board

2012 budget - $102.4 million. They're going to investigate - over a year before their finds are completed. Why isn't this a state issue? What good is the NTSB? I'm certain the states involved along with private enterprise could do a better job in a shorter length of time and would be more effective in making changes if they were needed. The Feds are famously ("but who cares?") in bed with the very organizations they are supposed to be investigating. What a waste.

I don’t know - it seems like everyone accepts the role the Feds (NTSB) play here and nobody questions their role, their accuracy, their timing, or whether the Constitution allows them to be there in the first place.

On Fox News just now is a Live interview with NTSB officials. I ask, why is ridiculous scumbag chuckie schumer at the podium with these NTSB officials? He has nothing to contribute but that hideous scheming face of his.

Drudge has a news report up that the train was going 80-something mph, when it was supposed to be going 30-something mph around that curve.

Y'know, my dinky little car GPS knows what the speed limit is along any particular road, and flashes red to me when I go over the limit. Would it be too much to ask to have the train GPS automatically slow the train down, and record a "ding" against the engineer every time it has to do so?

TRAIN DERAILED GOING 50 MPH OVER SPEED LIMIT

The engineer, William Rockefeller

Rockefeller “is totally traumatized by everything that has happened,” said Anthony Bottalico, executive director of the Association of Commuter Rail Employees, the union representing all the crew members.

Schumer is always glory-hounding at press conferences that have nothing to do with Senate business. He loves to see his mug on television and find new causes to expand government. He enjoys this and he can reassure his constituents that he is on the job making sure big brother works for them.

Did you see Schumer and Blumenthal both posing for the news conference? Blumenthal is a Senator from CT not NY. Why was he even there? He also was a USMC pretender who lied about his active duty Vietnam service to get elected and the mainstream media covered and muzzled it for him. http://forums.militarytimes.com/showthread.php?1586543-why-people-lie-about-military-service
