SAINT CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WXYZ) - "Friendly, loveable, playful,” said Brittany Preston as she described her dog Lexie. “She was just my puppy."

Preston says she left her dog with her Grandpa at his home in Saint Clair Shores, went to work overnight, came home, and the dog was dead.

She says Grandpa has mild dementia and forgot he let the dog out. The dog started barking. Between the hours of 3:00 and 7:00 a.m. several neighbors sick of the noise called police.

me too..

was forced to either move or shoot the damn dog..

the people who owned it refused to do anything about it, barking all hours of the night non stop...

my problem is not with dogs, but with the dogs owners, a vast majority of them do not give a damn what their animal does, because they are part of the family...

no, the are animals, and if you cannot control your animal you have no right owning one...

>> The police said that the barking dog charged them, so they were forced to shoot. The dog was hit eight times.

Pussies.

While I absolutely despise barking dogs, and the owners thereof, there is no friggin reason for this trend in police shooting dogs. If the friggin police feared the populace like prison guards respect their “populace”, this problem would disappear. Eventually, these dudes will get their due.

Good question, because you know the Brits love their dogs, from the Queen on down.

My mother went to England and said the dogs are everywhere, people bring them into restaurants even. I don’t know if they still do that.

That’s cruel. The old man probably loved dogs and she wanted her dog loved.

I grew up there. Knew a couple cops who had some good dog stories. Only one involved shooting. THey thought the dog had distemper because it was seizing and frothing. After dispatching the dog, the owner arrived. Turns out the dog was a highly inbred show dog that tended to seize and froth. Oops. I heard the city wrote a big check for that one.

May be cruel but it’s true.

My MIL is the same way. If you didn’t know her you’d think she’s fine but her short time memory and reasoning have gotten really bad. She tries to get the oil changed in her car at least one a week - but has stopped driving everywhere except to church which is close to the house.

So no - we would not trust her to watch our critters. Not because we don’t love her - but because we do and don’t want her to be the cause of something bad happening.

The lady in the story was filled with good intentions but it didn’t turn out well at all.

Did it ever occur to those making the complaints to check on the welfare of their neighbor? If my neighbor’s dog were left out all night, barking or not, I would know something was wrong and I would check on her. And she doesn’t have dementia.
