Perhaps she was allowing people on a watch list to get here with a phony identity for cash.

If that’s the case then screw her.

Doesn't matter what she did - if she has immunity then she has immunity. Period. I hope the overzealous cops that did this are proud that they caused an international incident. And I say overzealous even if she didn't have full immunity, because this body cavity search crap needs to stop. They need a warrant to search your house or car but can jam their hands up your ass on a whim? This country has gone to hell.

Thank you for the link.

From same link:

“JD(U) also criticised external affairs minister Salman Khurshid for meeting a US Congressional delegation though Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, home minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar refused to meet them in protest against the behaviour meted out to the diplomat.”

Salman khurshid is a Moslem. Apparently, he didn’t find demeaning a female diplomat by a government full of Islamists is so deplorable!

If Khobragade has/had a diplomatic passport, the world will not look kindly on us. Wars have started over lesser offenses...

She does have the diplomatic immunity:

While the deputy consul’s lawyer has argued that she should have diplomatic immunity, US officials said that would only cover crimes committed in connection with her work.

However the "US Officials" - who, obviously, are A-OK with starting the World War III by arresting a diplomat from a friendly (until now) nuclear power - are creatively reinterpreting the international law. Everyone knows that diplomats are immune from *all* allegations of the host state:

Diplomatic immunity is a form of legal immunity and a policy held between governments that ensures that diplomats are given safe passage and are considered not susceptible to lawsuit or prosecution under the host country's laws, although they can still be extradited.

It is customary that the offending diplomat is tried at home, and punished if convicted. However the host state can only order them to leave, and they must obey.

In this case the diplomat was arrested on allegations of hiring someone who should not have been given a visa, and not paying her the minimum hourly wages. Those allegations, in civilized countries, are investigated by the detective who simply sends the suspect a subpoena to show up at the police HQ and explain herself. No arrest is needed. Whatever transpired was done intentionally, to harm the USA - and it did that harm, just as planned.

The fact that the particular police officers who perpetrated these actions against an Indian diplomat have not been disciplined means that the Obama administration condones the actions.

Has the NYPD been given the okay to conduct Knockout Games against foreign diplomatic personnel? Unless the president apologizes very publicly to India, what else is anyone to believe?

This is much deeper than we are seeing here.

Why was she placed in the Tank with drug addicts? Why was she strip searched. Obama was sending a message.

I suppose it isn’t bad enough that we have Pakistan as a potential enemy in that part of the world Obama wants to piss off the Indians too. Well it seems to have worked.

Just to let you know, I left the USA 16 months ago. This kind of thing doesn’t surprise me. The only thing that surprises me is that I got to post an article first... Chao!

It looks like a tit for tat thing, her O pear was only making 3.35 an hour but when she complained here an arrest warrant was issued back in India and the courts there wanted her extradited back.

We said no and started playing hardball I guess.

This is from a thread from two days ago.

the woman she hired to clean her house and look after he two young daughters says Khobragade paid her less than $600 a month - $3.31 an hour - despite telling U.S. immigration officials the staffer would be paid $4,500 a month.

The diplomats will float a few more tons of papyrus messages back and forth across the oceans and calm the situation down.

From your link:

Top Indian diplomat arrested in New York after 'paying housekeeper $3.31 an hour and lying to get her into the country'.
-Deputy Consul General Devyani Khobragade, 39, has publicly campaigned for women's rights and gender equality

Now who does this remind me of?

Didn't we once have a so-called Impeached President who was all FOR women's rights and gender equality all while he was raping Juanita Broderick, sexually harassing Paula Jones and Kathleen Willey while actually having sex, er, oral sex with a young, no rank, under-paid White House staffer?

Hypocrisy, please pick up the white courtesy phone, Bill Clinton calling (he said he 'date' this Hindu chick....)

In Central FL quite a while ago, Orange Co. Sheriff’s officers arrested a Saudi royal princess who had come in on one of the Kingdoms many tooled out DC-9s, and was staying at a 5 star hotel near Disney. She kicked her slave Filipino maid/handservant down a set a of stairs and injured her. Hotel people saw it and called the cops. Her Sikh bodyguard had a hasselblad camera case with....$250K in USD cash... which was seized and forfeited. And the princess— ordered out of the US. This was under Reagan or Bush I, think. Very impressive use of local police powers coordinated with our federal officers from Customs. The woman was a biotch on ‘roids.

I read up a little more on this incident. Apparently, being a consular officer, she does not enjoy full diplomatic immunity. However she does still have some privileges based on her status.

Strip searching, body cavity searching and throwing her in the clink with drug addicts seems to violate norms for a diplomat from a friendly country.

John Kerry’s State department? Lol, don’t think this wasn’t okay’ed at that high of a level. Nobody who’s anybody arrests a diplomat or even consulate diplomat without the okay from the highest levels of the State Department.

Calm down folks. This gal is clearly a well-connected upper class Brahmin who thinks she should be as above the law here as she is in INDIA. She wanted to import a slave and lied about it.
I wouldn't blame Obama for her detention, which was probably carried out by working-level officials who simply treated her like all other detainees. What Obama can be blamed for is lowering our prestige to the point where a jumped up Third World hellhole like India can endanger an harass American diplomats in a childish display of pique. They probably think Obama will apologize to them as he has apologized to other Third world corruptoids. Our reaction should be to immediately close the visa sections of all US consulates being endangered and harassed by the corrupt Indian government. No more visas for the Indian techys who are stealing jobs from our own graduates. No more student visas. No more business visas. No more immigrant visas—they all vote for Obama anyway. Let them admire him from afar. I thought we had reached our low point when the corrupt and clueless president of Third World Brazil huffily rejected Obozo’s invitation to a State Dinner at the White House. But this is worse. We don't need India, would not be worse off if another Indian national never set foot in our country. Time someone in authority said what any REAL American believes.

Well, you DID say she was "a Saudi royal princess". Redundant?
