Looking for a Puppy

This is our dog. When he was three. He is part Boarder Collie, part Aussie and perhaps something else. Great and beautiful dog. Would love another one, same mix and coloring. Have not had any luck finding one. Our boy is getting old and we would love a new pup for him to train. Any one know of people who breed or have such a beauty?

Yes, I know that the shelters have all sorts of wonderful dogs. But this is the kind of dog we are looking for.

I guess I’m confused by what you mean about the breed “Aussie.” There are Australian Cattle Dogs AKA blue heeler and then there are Australian Shepherds. The first were bred in Australia from 1. Dalmatians,2. an extinct breed - kelpies I think, and 3. dingos. The later were bred in Texas and are born without a tail. I had an early version when I was a kid growing up down there.

It appears from the photo that what you have is an Australian Shepherd.

We have a heeler/border collie mix. A true heeler has a white spot on top of his head and a white tip on his full length tail. They have pricked ears.

This breeder has pups. Born 12/20/2013. Looks like they have two available. Rest are pending. If you do not like one of their pups they may know someone who has more available. I do not know anything about this breeder. I have a Giant Alaskan Malamute, rescued mixed red hound and a Cairn Terrier so I do not know the breed or any breeders personally. Good Luck!

Cornelis beat me to it. Our previous rescue was an English Shepherd, and, dang, I loved that little girl. Beautiful dog, beautiful spirit, all-around good family dog. They are not a well-known breed, although are recognized by the AKC, I believe.

There is a rescue group, National English Shepherd Rescue you could also try. The site explains the breed traits and characteristics. This may be just what you are looking for.

I don’t think it makes much difference which breed. When you bond with a dog you bond with the individual dog not the breed. Just go to a pound and save a life.

We got our border collie from this VA breeder, and she has been a wonderful dog
http://www.peachykeenbc.com/

the breeder recommended our pup based on her temperament being the type of dog we were looking for (middle of the pack, not not a hyper dominant dog) , and we have been very pleased

PeachyKeen has border colors like reds, blues and lilacs who look like your boy

or look for BC breeders who have reds (or maybe lilacs) , seems like closest color to your boy

all you need is a park nearby to run and play frisbee.

BC’s need a “job”, one job they enjoy is learning to be disc doggies

Is he neutered? If you’re determined your best bet to get his temperament and traits in another dog would be to breed him with a similar female.

Unfortunately most good dogs are neutered these days.

You can always find a good taxidermist and when he passes you can have him forever.

Then you understand, warm, intelligent, loving and always helps you park the car. Aussie trait: circles and leads instead of pushing from behind.

Well you are the one who said you were shallow. I thought it might be something that appealed to you, if all you care about is looks.

_____________

No. I said looks are important and then I would look at the inside tempermant. I am shallow in the sense that looks matter. Just like it matters to others who prefer certain breeds of dogs. As wonderful as mutts can be, I am not interested in a pound dog. Too many bad experiences. I am looking for a dog with some similarities of breed to the one I have.

“You can always find a good taxidermist and when he passes you can have him forever.”

You can stand him in the corner along with Mom and Uncle Joe. ;-)

I can’t imagine owning any dog but Aussies. Similar to BC’s but not quite as hyper. I could leave my two dogs indoors all day and they won’t get into trouble - they entertain each other.
