The number of law-enforcement officers killed by firearms in 2013 fell to levels not seen since the 19th century, according to a report released Monday.

The annual report from the nonprofit National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund also found that deaths in the line of duty generally fell by 8 percent and were the fewest since 1959.

According to the report, 111 federal, state, local, tribal and territorial officers were killed in the line of duty nationwide this past year, compared to 121 in 2012.

Forty-six officers were killed in traffic related accidents, and 33 were killed by firearms.

The number of firearms deaths fell 33 percent in 2013 and was the lowest since 1887.

That’s because this newest breed of cops shoot first and ask questions later.

In a year that saw an UNBELIEVABLE run on firearms and ammunition. Firearm ownership up, police deaths down. Go figure.

Yep. Makes me think that the homeowner took care of the problem before law enforcement could come into harms way.

There seems to be a correlation. The more dogs are killed by police, the fewer police are killed by firearms. Hmmm...., that explains why they’re killing dogs /s

what real objective journalists would do would discuss how while firearms deaths in 2013 are’as low as they were in 2013, consider that in light of how many guns criminals, law-abiding citizens, leos, govt agencies, and the military all have. consider further the much larger population in the us today.

the proper conclusion is in geneal, people are safer, are the opposite of generally reckless, or trying to stir up trouble with their guns. they are responsible and they use them for defensive purposes, and may even try to do what they can to avoid having to use them.

Another question would be how many could have been shot by their own weapon, but were saved by more effective retention holsters?

......if I’m a professional burglar that can read, I would read that tens of millions of people are arming themselves (buying guns and ammos). Then, if by some miracle I had some logic too, I might deduce that “boy, more of these houses I’m bustin into have folks in them with a gun”. I better find another profession.

A professional 7 Eleven robber, or bank robber, might say “Whoa, I’m gonna run outta that bank and 100 citizens are gonna open fire on my ass”.

Back to me, I read somewhere recently that violent crime was down 30%. Damn right it is cuz there are fewer and fewer and fewer gun free zones and unarmed people. I bought an AR 15 last week! The clerk at the small gun store said they sell twelve a day.

So, there is no question in my mind that more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens reduces crime across the board and makes the world a safer place for the cops.

In addition the US Census for 1890, the nearest census to 1887 was approximately 63 million.

The population in 2013 for the US 317 million, or 5 times as many people living in the US.

GA has has shall-issue concealed carry for a long time, before FL, long before TX, to point out two states often used as examples of citizen firearms use.

Approximately 5% of the adult population of GA has a CCW license. That’s a HUGE number.

Forty-six officers were killed in traffic related accidents, and 33 were killed by firearms.

THAT DOES IT!

We need car control!

We need car registration!

We need licensing and training before using a car!

What am I missing?

In the same time how many innocent subjects (I not sure if we’re citizens anymore) have died as a result of LEO gunfire? And how many died while the LEOs dilly dallied around before attempting to intervene in a situation?
