Two New Executive Orders Will Change Who Can Buy Guns
Mashable ^ | January 3, 2014 | Colin Daileda

The White House issued two executive actions on Friday that aim to beef up background checks for would-be gun buyers and keep the weapons away from those at risk of harming themselves or others.

The first order, proposed by the Department of Justice, more clearly defines who cannot possess a handgun under federal law due to mental health issues. It is designed to clarify the language of the current law by providing better definitions for phrases like what it means to be "committed to a mental institution." This, in turn, will provide a more well-rounded picture of a potential buyer's mental health for the background check to determine whether a purchase should be allowed.

The second executive action concerns privacy laws associated with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. States have complained that individual privacy protections have made it difficult for them to report relevant mental health information to their respective background check systems, which they fear could lead to guns falling into dangerous hands. The proposed change would allow states to relay "limited" tidbits of information that they feel should be included in background checks. The executive order stresses that it will not prevent everyone with mental health concerns from buying guns, and will not require buyers to report "routine mental health care."

Too many Americans have been severely injured or lost their lives as a result of gun violence,"

Too many Americans have been severely injured or lost their lives as a result of gun violence," the order reads. "While the vast majority of Americans who experience a mental illness are not violent, in some cases when persons with a mental illness do not receive the treatment they need, the result can be tragedies such as homicide or suicide."

The debate over gun regulation in America has always been a hotly contested one, but it erupted in December 2012 following a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut that left 27 dead, including 20 kids, six adults and the gunman. President Barack Obama called for extensive gun control measures, including expanded background checks, but Congress has not passed any legislation since the attack. In the text of the executive orders, the White House continues to urge Congress to consider further gun control measures.

"Passing common-sense gun safety legislation — including expanding background checks and making gun trafficking a federal crime — remains the most important step we can take to reduce gun violence," the order reads.

I looked over the exact verbiage. *IF* they do as they are stating they will — and that is a BIG IF — then I guess I have no problem with the clarifications.

1. Obama and the Dems are desperate to hold onto their base (not that they’ll switch to the GOP, but they’ll go 3rd party or just stay home)

2. This will cause people with mental illnesses to avoid treatment. Law of Unintended Consequences is always biting the heels of these heels.

Let’s set our sights a bit more realistically. How about we win the Senate and strengthen the House with conservatives, first.

“Impeach Obama in 2014. Period.”

It takes 2/3 of the Senate to remove Obama from office. That’s 67 votes. There are 45 pubbies and 55 communists. Only 16 communists are up for election. If we take all of those seats and keep the pubbies we’ve got (unlikely) we’d still be several votes short. And, that figues on all of the pubbies voting to remove him. (McCain? Probably no. I’m sure we could name a few more who would be horrified to remove a black communist from office.) So, it won’t happen.

It will really make it hard for combat veterans to legally own firearms and especially to have a CCW.

I knew this was coming as sure as the sun will rise in the morning.

The Communists use the “mental” avenue to absolutely control the population without any regard to rights or law.

I wonder how many “mentally ill” ordinary citizens were toasted in the ovens or sent to gulags simply because they were a threat to the government.

Now, gun control is the burning issue with our own communists and since some of the few remaining laws of the Constitution stand before them, they will fall back on the “tried and true” tested methods of the Communists.

If you disagree with any of the unlawful government rules, laws and regulations there can be only one reason to do so....MENTAL INSTABILITY!

How about we win the Senate and strengthen the House with conservatives, first.

How about the House turning loose a platoon of special prosecutors to dig up the dirt on The Impostor first, and set the stage for his removal -- or force the Dims to line up in lockstep, again, behind another impeached criminal, right before the Big One in 2016? If Hillary gets in, we are all fried.

A GOP House and Senate, by themselves, will only set a mildly more-Republican backdrop for the end of the Republic.

The best it will do will afford really handsome payoffs for GOP-e quislings who sell out to the Stalinists post-election, for all the marbles.

When it comes the government, in the killing business, it does not like competition.

I mean, the feds do it so well, that we have yet to figure out the actual demise of Vince Foster! We THINK we know what happened to Ron Brown. There is still the questionable solo death of Rep. Sonny Bono. The late Mssr. Breitbart, laughing and being cheerful a mere four hours earlier than the coroner’s determined time of death.

However, when the feds start stepping over their own privacy laws, to intimidate, finger, and isolate other Americans, who look to those privacy laws as a bulwark against intrusion, the feds have just ‘dumped’ on themselves.

Stalin used mental health as a good excuse to send people who disagreed with him to the gulag...

VERY TRUE. And this bastard is the closest thing to Stalin we have seen in America.

All those questions Zerocare will be required you to answer will be submitted
by some people who are very anti-gun. Once any lie is in the system it cannot be reversed
without thousands paid in lawyer fees. If there's even a way to dispute what that IRS has on you.

The IRS will be the new anti-gun regulator by how they perceived your mental health.
And those bureaucrats will not be professional Docs trained in psychology.

Their intent is to eventually prohibit any person on meds (anti-depressants, ADHD meds, anxiety meds, etc, etc) from owning guns.

They are also creating more felons by enacting ridiculous laws that render more felons...like Illinois just did regarding discarding cigarette butts...3 times, you're a convicted felon.

And the GOP doesn't even flinch.

So, it won’t happen.

Allow me to drill into your head that it's not so much impeaching him as is the fact that
nobody is going through the motions of even TRYING. Bringing into the light through impeachment
procedings would show the low information voters WTF is really happening and that the MSM have
been lying for all these years. The damage being Caused by Boehner is incomprehensible through dereliction of duty.

From the article: "The second executive action concerns privacy laws associated with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. "

Did they find an "executive order" exception to this law also, similar to the exception buried somewhere in Obamacare which allows Obama to change any part of it whenever he wishes?
