60mph 'green' speed limit on the motorway
Daily Mail ^ | 7 January 2014 | ray massey

The speed limit on one of Britain’s busiest motorways is to be cut from 70mph to 60mph under a controversial plan to meet European Union pollution targets.

The first ‘environmental’ speed limit is set to be imposed within months on a 32-mile stretch of the M1 – for seven days a week, from 7am to 7pm

The limit will be in place for several years, and any driver caught breaking it faces a hefty fine and penalty points on their license.

They're worried about a 0.04% percentage of the necessary gas for life CO2 in the earths atmosphere but not the muzzies who scream in their streets they want to kill them and do kill them.

Meanwhile, long stretches of I-15 in Utah are posted for 80 MPH. The difference between freedom and tyranny. I enjoyed a few visits to Wales in the 90's. The political changes have made more trips undesirable. Plenty to do on this side of the pond.

I must say, as a slow driver, I let all folks pass me and I don’t care. Many, many times those who pass are angry, Prius drivers...equipped with their bumper stickers. Doesn’t when you accelerate really fast with a hybrid, doesn’t it use the engine at that time?

Remember that Jimmy Carter gave us the infamous 55 mph national limit. I am certain the cost of replacing all the speed limit signs was was far higher than the cost of any gasoline saved by driving 55.

In my opinion, getting rid of the 55-mph speed limit was Bill Clinton’s greatest legacy. Not even Ronald Reagan was able to do that.

well, thanks for your reply, but it doesn’t seem to have much to do with my question, the article is in a British page about speed limits on a British highway and they are talking MPH not KPH

and then you ask me if I have any real sources, I have no idea about what you are talking

Or driving 55 in the left lane and being run off the road by the people behind them.

I came up on an idiot in a hybrid last night doing 50 in a 60 zone in the left lane. It should be allowed to run those types off the road.

The UK uses MPH for speed and Miles for distance on roadway signs, etc. E.U. uses KMH and Kilometers

Britain and the US are the only two countries that still use Miles on road signs.

Partially correct:

“the April 2, 1987, Surface Transportation and Uniform Relocation Assistance Act, Congress permitted states to raise speed limits to 65 mph (105 km/h) on rural Interstate highways”

It should be allowed to run those types off the road.

Around here is is bicycles that clog up the roads and cause accidents. Tourists like to drive slow and use the wrong lands.

Reagan vetoed that bill because it contained a boatload of pork, but his veto was overridden.

It was a welcome change.
I was forced to drive much interstate mileage in Ohio and it swarmed with 55mph enforcing troopers.

Mine is like that, but it’s a digital LCD. A few years back, someone discovered how you could jumper two pins to let it read all the way up to 199MPH. Apparently Ford wanted to keep their options open :^)
