Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee: Change the Word 'Welfare' to 'Transitional Living Fund' January 8, 2014 - 10:49 AM By Susan Jones
(CNSNews.com) - In a brief speech on the House floor Wednesday, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) hailed the war on poverty, endorsed government welfare programs, and said the "safety net has to be something for all of us."
"Maybe the word welfare should be changed to something of, 'a transitional living fund.' For that is what it is -- for people to be able to live," she said.
Jackson Lee hailed the Earned Income Credit, food and nutrition programs, jobs training and education programs, Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act as "huge safety nets -- not handouts, but safety nets, she said.
As part of her five-minute speech, she displayed a photo of people in a long line "who are possibly looking for work." Jackson-Lee said there's no way to know which of those people "are near the edge of poverty or living in poverty simply because they cannot find work."
She urged Congress to pass emergency unemployment insurance -- "a transitional outreach to individuals who are chronically unemployed," as she put it.
"Quite frankly, of all the wealthy nations, we have the lowest safety net and the highest poverty, because we're not willing to accept the fact that sometimes an American needs help. Even a veteran -- even a soldier.

I’m okay with that ... as long as they change the program to match that title.
The War on Poverty HAS been a great success....for the electoral chances of Democrats.

Most of them don’t understand “transitional” or it wouldn’t be such a problem.

Next, let’s change “President Obama” to “a mealy-mouth, lily-livered undereducated quota boy with no discernible morals or IQ”. We can introduce him with some appropriate (c)rap music.

Put a year limit on it at a time, with a lifetime limit of 3-5 years (just to wean them off),
then a generational limit of 10 years.
If your “momma” was on welfare for 5 years, and her mother was on welfare for 5 years, you’re SOL.
It’s a shame that some people have been “transitioning” for several generations now.
Five generations of dole dependence by your constituents is NOT “transitional” by any stretch of imagination.
Good idea for name change but ONLY if deadline is placed on usage...otherwise it empties the word “transitional” of meaning...and as for word “fund”...likewise an amount needs to be capped...not meant to be a never-ending source that treats govt as God or as a daily Santa.

I think it is time to start calling long term unemployment what it really-—WELFARE.
More ‘redefining’ of terms to make what is going on more palatable .... nothing new.

So. No way SheJack came up with this idea. She is far too stupid to have conceived of such big ideas.

Hey, Sheila, no problem. Only make it transitional first.
If I were to quote Rep. Lee, I would be called a racist for mocking the intellectual level of black people.
It is a way to keep her constituents on the plantation forever.
