Sounds like my old truck - 85 F-250 7.3L Diesel. We called her the Blue Beast.
Gave to my son to use as a work truck when it was at 397K. he kept it for a couple years and sold it with 448K on it. Thing still ran great once it was started, but the glow plugs and starting system had gotten tempermental over the years and it had gotten to the point where most days a shot of ether was needed to kick it off.
I can see some uses for storing OnStar metadata.
1) When your Car is stolen, OnStar can locate your car.
2) When your Teenager borrows the car to go to the Library on a Friday night, you can validate the cars location Saturdat morning.
3) Engineers can study a cars total life metadata to improve performance and reliability of future models.
OnStar is a HUGE problem, and I would like a 100% disconnect
1) Onstar can listen to in car conversations. Really, if I am talking to my Lawyer, or a supplier?
2) I do not like the idea of my cars total life metadata folded into all my other metadata and used by the Government for Just what purpose? Can someone explain why 0bama launched this spying program?
Is the whole unit in that windshield mirror, or are other components hardwired into the onboard computer?
Is the OnStar microphone in that mirror?
This guy only confirmed what most people know.
The goal is to become more educated so folks can adjust their behaviours, or disconnect the GPS and OnStar.

Look at toll roads. The system marks the time you enter and exit the toll road. The system measures miles traveled. They can do the math to determine your average speed

Most coffee shops and other retailers have those cameras at the checkout.
Those cameras are perfectly reasonable to deter thieves, and help catch criminals. But only as a standalone distinct system
The problem is when all of these systems are linked to create a 100% surveilance system operated by the Government.
If the Government wants to know what I did last Saturday morning, all they have to do is ask!

Considering it was a Spitfire, I wonder now why it mattered anyway. Wasn't too much worse after it quit running.

I have a son and a nephew who are electronic geeks. They advised me that it really didn’t turn it off entirely .. but it does confuse .. which helps.
I was aware it was not totally turned off, but it does distort where I am.
Frankly, it’s nobody’s business where I drive my car. So, if I can confuse anybody who might be trying to find out, so much the better.
