Christie proposing longer school day amid scandal

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will propose extending the public school calendar and lengthening the school day in a speech he hopes will help him rebound from an apparent political payback scheme that threatens to damage his second term and could cut short any ambitions to run for president.

According to excerpts of his State of the State address obtained by The Associated Press, Christie, an early front-runner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, will make the case Tuesday that children who spend more time in school graduate better prepared academically. Details of the plan will be left for another day.

It will however cause the teachers unions to go absolutely ape sh**, giving him an opportunity to slap them down. Which is what got him to where he is.

Don’t polls how that any “D” will defeat Christie in NJ in 2016 if he is the presidential nominee? Like Romney, he can’t carry his home state. I can’t get too excited about Christie’s troubles, except that they can bring Jebbie to the forefront.

When a female breeder pops out a baby human, the baby should drop right into a government basket and be taken to a government indoctrination facility and raised by government indoctrinators.

Funny, my 7 year old was a fierce Romney supporter in the mock kid's election they ran because she heard Obama wants the kids to have school in summer (probably so the teachers unions can insist on more money/benefits). She now is very anti-Hillary for the same reason. Hey, whatever it takes.

Does this mean that he will be Hillary’s running mate after all?

Jeb might be the best...but he is a Bush. And there are plenty of Bush Bashers right here on FR (mostly Dem infiltraitors I always say).

We're assuming Hillary is the Dem play....but we assumed that in 2008. Who else do they have??

I'm afraid that if they ran Mickey Mouse, they might win...given that Obama won.

Sorry....don't like Christiue. He's a local...not National. He made headlines when he hugged Obama in exchange for money...part of which he used to fund a self serving commercial.

Nothing demonstrates more Socialist tendencies than messing with the schools...especially using it as a cover for your corruption

Jebbie, much like Christie, much like almost every single other GOP ladder climber, is a guaranteed L.

Outside of Ted Cruz, the GOP has no assets whatsoever.

He may have decided that the only way to get the heat off him is to adopt the policies of the Left. If he completes the cycle and becomes a Democrat, all will be forgiven and he’ll be hailed as a hero.

No...Real Conservatives do not like Bush...any Bushes...

Jeb Bush supports Illegal Alien Amnesty, more Federal Govt in education (like his father and brother), anti Tea Party, and anti-life (how he wimped out on Terri Schindler Schiavo...siding with Hemlock Society).

Also, his druggie daughter will be used against him by the Dems

Jeb Bush is not a Conservative...and neither are his supporters.

Crispy Creme hopes a decidely-controversial school issue will "help him rebound" from Bridgegate.

I'm sure there's more popular issues for this dummy to choose from to help him "rebound" with the folks.

Like getting rid of those nazi yellow-light cameras causing enormous fines for his New Jersey constituents, for starters.

States, municipalities and camera companies are making millions off this scam.

Sounds like Crispy is starting to go into panic mode....and floundering wildly around in search of quick redemption.

We'd all be better off if the men in white coats come to quietly carry the man away and leave us (and the national scene) in peace.

Yes, exit polling of Christie voters last Fall showed the majority preferred Hillary as POTUS.

OK.....local schools lengthened the school week this year, as well.

Teachers HATED it. "We work and slave, etc etc etc....", and so on. You can imagine. It was quite the tempest in a teapot.

"Good!", I said, "Make the teachers work a little harder. Or, the kids will learn a little more. Or, it will add to class time. Perhaps the busses will start running at a reasonable hour (currently, they'd pick up WBill Jr. at 6:15am, if we let him take the bus) Certainly, some good will be done, here!"

Not so much. They added 5 min to the start of the day (kids come in at 7:45 instead of 7:50) and 7 minutes to the end of the school day (2:30, instead of 2:23). Sez me, what was the point of the argument?
