Piers Morgan: No guns for people under 25
The Hill's Briefing Room ^ | January 28, 2014 | Tim Devaney

CNN host Piers Morgan says people under the age of 25 should not be allowed to buy guns, in light of recent shootings around the country.

Wading into the national gun debate, Morgan took to Twitter this week to argue about what he called the "absurdity" of the Second Amendment.

He pointed out that the recent Maryland mall shooter, Darion Marcus Aguilar, was 19-years-old. He reasoned that people can't drink alcohol before the age of 21 or rent a car before turning 25, so the government should establish similar standards for gun ownership.

"The 19yr-old mall shooter in Maryland was not legally allowed to buy an alcoholic drink until 21," Morgan tweeted. "But was able to legally buy a shotgun."

"It's almost impossible to rent a car under the age of 25 in America - why not regulate guns the same way? Just common sense," he added.

Many of the recent high-profile shootings around the country have come at the hands of people who were under the age of 25.

The Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza, was 20-years-old at the time of the Connecticut shooting...

why does it have to be hazardous duty at all?

as long as its not service to the state as the only option, because I would oppose that with every fiber of my being

I’m paraphrasing, but the reason the duty had to be somewhat hazardous (according to Heinlein) is to proove you would put the good of society ahead of yourself (a good test for politicians-if it sticks). They also accepted non-military service but given the subject of the book there wasn’t as much detail given to those positions.

The main difference is in the government itself. The government served society, not the other way around.

I had a single shot .410 Shotgun when I was 8 Years Old. Also had a .22 Rifle. Kept them in my Bedroom Closet.

Thank goodness there weren’t any Malls back then, I might have been tempted.

I think 18, 19 and 20 Year Olds do more damage because they can Vote.

So, you're ok with compelling them to die for your safety and denying them any voice in the government that would send them?
That's rather sick.

To be fair he didn’t say that. In my opinion both of your opinions are correct. Most teenagers vote terribly, and those who serve should have the right to vote.

He didn't, but that would be the logical conclusion.
I'm not sure that the young voters are, relatively speaking, terrible voters. (Consider that they are still learning, consider that they have been exposed to a decade of indoctrination, consider that they don't have a lot of "real world experience".) This is a far cry from, e.g., voting for Romney in 2012 despite his record or the Republican party's lack of action on any of their platform-planks.

Nope, what I forgot to include in my Post, that I have included on other Posts regarding this subject before, is that Active Military should be the exception to the Rule.

Now, to take your point a little further, should those same 18, 19 and 20 Year Olds, regardless of Military Service, be able to Drink and Gamble?

Do you understand that the ignorant Youth of this Country helped saddle us with Emperor Obama?

How about you ask for some clarification before accusing someone of being “sick” because of something they Posted on this Forum?

I also like you making up a ridiculous Premise that my Post somehow indicated that I was “ok with compelling them to die for your safety and denying them any voice in the government that would send them?”

You sound like a 60’s Anti War Activist now working for the Obama Regime.

Best you keep your finger off the trigger before you come up with another stupid analogy.

It might be YOUR “logical conclusion”, but it isn’t THE “logical conclusion” my FRiend.

I'm going to disagree; [legal] exceptions should be rare, not common occurrences.
There is a lot of harm that can be done by keeping things from being simple: just look at our tax-code.

Now, to take your point a little further, should those same 18, 19 and 20 Year Olds, regardless of Military Service, be able to Drink and Gamble?

Yes. They have attained the age of majority and thus the law regards them as adults.

Do you understand that the ignorant Youth of this Country helped saddle us with Emperor Obama?

Then is it not the failing of the prior generation to teach them in understanding and wisdom?
This is not to say that they are blameless, but it does say something about the schooling (and the quality or lack thereof) that the prior generation subjected them to by compelling their attendance for over half their lives.

How about you ask for some clarification before accusing someone of being “sick” because of something they Posted on this Forum?

How about you not propose sick ideas?
Your exception system would deny the ability to vote to even those who would serve were they able; my own brother-in-law would have gone in if he'd been able, but wasn't due to medical conditions.

I also like you making up a ridiculous Premise that my Post somehow indicated that I was “ok with compelling them to die for your safety and denying them any voice in the government that would send them?”

You certainly didn't mention any exceptions prior, nor did you mention that selective-service/draft age should be changed under such a system, so I assumed you meant for those to stay the same.

You sound like a 60’s Anti War Activist now working for the Obama Regime.

Where do you get that?

Best you keep your finger off the trigger before you come up with another stupid analogy.

I didn't come up with an analogy; it was an inference.

analogy
noun, plural analogies.
  1. a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based: the analogy between the heart and a pump.
  2. similarity or comparability: I see no analogy between your problem and mine.
  3. Biology. an analogous relationship.
  4. Linguistics.
    a. the process by which words or phrases are created or re-formed according to existing patterns in the language, as when shoon was re-formed as shoes, when -ize is added to nouns like winter to form verbs, or when a child says foots for feet.
    b. a form resulting from such a process.
  5. Logic. a form of reasoning in which one thing is inferred to be similar to another thing in a certain respect, on the basis of the known similarity between the things in other respects.

inference
noun
  1. the act or process of inferring.
  2. something that is inferred: to make rash inferences.
  3. Logic.
    a. the process of deriving the strict logical consequences of assumed premises.
    b. the process of arriving at some conclusion that, though it is not logically derivable from the assumed premises, possesses some degree of probability relative to the premises.
    c. a proposition reached by a process of inference.

Thank you so much for the clarification.

Sorry for confusing Analogy with Inference. I will attempt to not repeat that mistake in the future.

I appreciate the time you spent looking up and listing the definitions for me. How courteous and thoughtful of you.

Nice move doubling down on your “sick” accusation by the way. Very smooth indeed. I explained in my response to you that those serving the Military should not be denied the Vote, yet you still persist because you disagree with me regarding that exception.

I will assume that my explanation of the mistaken omission in my first Post regarding that belief was insufficient in your eyes, yet there it was.

You think the 18 to 20 Year Olds deserve the Vote and I think they have not had enough Life experience to value the impact of that Vote on the Country. So be it, but don’t try and drum up the idea that I, a person you have never met, has some disdain for the same 18 to 20 Year Olds serving in our Military.

Good night my FRiend. This has already gotten out of hand.

Even the Brits dont want pierce morgan back , and adam lanza was just a evil person who hid a horrible act there have always been people like him and always will be

And on another subject banning guns does not even prevent spree killing , you dont even need a gun for spree murder , cars and household objects have been used too successfully numerous times but libs dont want to hear that

William Unek killed 21 people just with a axe in a spree kill, Li Xianliang killed 17 with a shovel loader ,Mutsuo Toi killed 30 with a sword , Yan Yanming killed 9 just with a knife ,Santosh Maruti Mane killed 9 people with a bus .

The deadliest lone wolf attack done in a school in the history of usa was dont even done with a gun, a nutjob by the name of Andrew Kehoe planted a bomb in a school in 1927 killing 45 , the deadliest school shooting was vtech where 33 died.
