Safety nets are the business of churches and charitable organizations. The U.S. government has a different function, and when it presumes to take over the work that churches/charities are meant to do ... we see the moral, financial, and entitlement-mentality malaise that we have now.

I wasn’t picking on you — as a matter of fact, I happen to agree with your observation (his “no safety nets ... of course we need safety nets ...” *sigh*) and chuckled when I read your post! I was merely using this occasion to brag about having met him in person!!! {^) Lighten up, FRances!

Elway should run this year on the condition that Mike Ditka goes against Durbin in Illinois. THAT would be entertaining. They did a commercial together years ago and I thought it up then.

Ah. Nice "Stripes" reference.
Perhaps you're right. Perhaps I'm wound too tightly sometimes. Perhaps if I take a moment to reflect on what is said and try to view the world through another's eyes I will come to understand that the same thing can be said in different ways and, perhaps, that will make me a more pleasant and well-balanced person.
Nahhhhhhhhh!

And Payton Manning is one of the smartest business men there is. He bought half of the Papa John's franchises in Colorado just prior to the marijuana law passing.
He knew that pizza would be a big seller for the munchies!

Two words, Brian, "Bo Jackson", ok? I suppose a clip of Bo running over Bosworth like a piece of tissue is out there somewhere. Luckily I watched that game and saw it.

Elway is an egotistical SOB. First, he drafts Tim Tebow with no intention of playing him.I'm not an Elway fan but get your facts straight. Tebow was drafted the year before Elway took over.

To: Hojczyk
The real question is: Why did that smarmy Chris Wallace ask John Elway that question?
To: NTHockey
Elway didn’t draft him. Elway took control in 2011. Tebow was Josh McDaniel’s guy.

There is EVERYTHING wrong with gov. safety nets. EVERYTHING. The tiniest Gov safety net, WILL INEVITABLY AND ALWAYS grow to biblical proportions. I believe fully in safety nets... It’s called insurance and I pay for it.
To: Finny; Hojczyk; Texas Eagle
As a rule, quarterbacks are very smart, or at least the good ones are very smart . Thanks so much for relating your experience with Elway. I'm not surprised to learn that you found him quite engaging and intelligent. Like you, I've met my and known share of pro ball players also, (most through DrO) and all are college or university educated, conservative, and very much 'down to earth.'
