Sowell: Republicans to the Rescue?
Creators Syndicate ^ | January 4, 2014 | Thomas Sowell

Some supporters of President Obama may be worried about how he and the Democrats are going to fare politically, as the problems of ObamaCare continue to escalate, and it looks like the Republicans have a chance to win a majority in the Senate.

But Democrats may not need to worry so much. Republicans may once again come to the rescue of the Democrats, by discrediting themselves and snatching defeat from the very jaws of victory.

The latest bright idea among Republicans inside the Beltway is a new version of amnesty that is virtually certain to lose votes among the Republican base and is unlikely to gain many votes among the Hispanics that the Republican leadership is courting.

One of the enduring political mysteries is how the Republicans can be so successful in winning governorships and control of state legislatures, while failing to make much headway in Washington. Maybe there are just too many clever GOP consultants inside the Beltway.

When it comes to national elections, just what principles do the Republicans stand for? It is hard to think of any, other than their hoping to win elections by converting themselves into Democrats lite. But voters who want what the Democrats offer can vote for the real thing, rather than Johnny-come-lately imitations.

Listening to discussions of immigration laws and proposals to reform them is like listening to something out of "Alice in Wonderland."

Immigration laws are the only laws that are discussed in terms of how to help people who break them. One of the big problems that those who are pushing "comprehensive immigration reform" want solved is how to help people who came here illegally and are now "living in the shadows" as a result.

The station I'm listening to just ran a pro-amnesty ad from laughably named "Americans for a Conservative Direction".

I wonder if an advertising campaign was coordinated to run with a big GOP pouch coming out of the amnesty "retreat".

The ad really tests your blood pressure BTW.

It’s pretty clear the GOPe are determined to rubber stamp the Senate amnesty bill with their plan of doing it in several bills instead of one.

If they do it’s criminal in my view.

I had fun googling “Americans for a Conservative Direction,” even if you didn’t.

Republicans may yet rescue the Democrats, while demoralizing their own supporters and utterly failing the country.

The GOP establishment plan in a nutshell.

It’s a sad state of affairs when your own party is more repugnant than the opposition party. You can’t even pick the lesser of two evils anymore when they are equally evil. Sigh.

Dr. Sowell is making the same fundamental error in divining the actions of the GOPe as most people: He assumes they want to win, and I seriously don’t believe that’s the case. I submit they are playing to lose on purpose.

They don’t want to take the heat from the Press for leading with conservative principles, they know they’ll lose with liberal principles, and they want to keep their sinecures. So, they’ve forged an unholy alliance with the Rats: The GOPe loses on purpose, and the Rats make sure they get to keep their little perks.

They don’t care one whit about the country at large. They are literally losing in order to keep their spots at the cocktail parties.

Where the GOP-e is astoundingly (or rather distressingly) successful is driving wedge issues within their own party in the most inopportune of times.

Rush was talking about this today... his theory is the GOP-e either doesn’t want to win the majority or is OK with winning, but not by too large a margin. They’re fearful of the responsibilities of leading.

The Republican Party has been infiltrated by progressives for a long time. They must be outed and eliminated.

The most worthwhile "action" or legislation that the House GOP could take up would be to IMPEACH THE SORRY BASTARD IN THE WHITE HOUSE EACH WEEK, each and every week, from now until the end of his presidency.

He has given plenty of ammunition to do this on a different count each week. Do so and force the Senate to take up the impeachment articles and vote on them.

This President has revealed himself to be a phony, fraud, and a flim-flam man with each passing day as heu pathetically tries to avoid the accountability and consequences of his own actions. He has betrayed America's trust, he has lied, misled, falsely accused, been involved with programs that have caused the death and injury of many Americans, and tried in vain to explain all of this as some kind of "phony," attack, witch hunt, or vendetta against him.

Well, in reality the only vendetta is his own vendetta against America and its traditional values and its very Constitution, since the day he set foot in the White House and long before.

President Obama, (aka Barry Soetoro), it is you, who are the phony here, you and those abetting and supporting the atrocious actions by you and your sick administration.

Pennsylvania puts that theory to rest. This arrived today...

http://www.empowerpa.org/we-couldnt-have-said-it-any-better/

Imagine for a moment it’s 1994, and the following “prophecy” is placed in a time capsule to be opened in 2015:

Republicans will have total control of state government (House, Senate, and Governor) for 12 of the next 20 years, and two-thirds control (House and Senate) for an additional four of those 20 years, and here is a list of things they will NOT achieve...

Immigration was not even mentioned.

They don't call the GOP the stupid party for nothing.

We're supposed to be happy that they are merely Philippe Petain traitors and not Vidkun Quisling traitors.

What about embezzlers or burglars who are "living in the shadows" in fear that someone will discover their crimes? Why not "reform" the laws against embezzlement or burglary, so that such people can also come out of the shadows?

Almost everyone seems to think that we need to solve the problem of the children of illegal immigrants, because these children are here "through no fault of their own." Do people who say that have any idea how many millions of children are living in dire poverty in India, Africa or other places "through no fault of their own," and would be better off living in the United States?

yep, Ive had judges prefer that my kids go without food and shelter, rather than the fine [usually a stupid traffic/equipment violation] not be paid...poor illegal kids get bennies AND protection from gov...
