Cornyn: We have a moral obligation to deal with our debt
Pearland Journal ^ | 2/6/14 | Pearland Journal

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) spoke on the Senate floor today on the need to deal with our growing national debt to ensure that it does not endanger the future of the next generation. Excerpts of the speech are below:

“Back in 1997, the debt was $5.3 trillion. $5.3 trillion in 1997. That was the last time we had a vote in the Senate on a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, and we came within one vote of passing a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. But today the debt is $17 trillion-plus.

“And the President says our debt is on a sustainable path. Well it’s just not true. It’s whistling past the graveyard and it’s endangering our prosperity and our opportunity, not only just for the younger generation, but for people today who want to find work and want to provide for their families and pursue their version of the American dream.”

He voted for ending debate but against passing the debt limit increase. Some FReepers believe the former is the same as the latter. They also claim this technique (voting for ending debate and then against the actual measure) gives political cover to senators who don’t want to reveal their true motives and antagonize their base. This is probably true for some senators but not all. Either way, we don’t know what motivates them. We can only guess.

To be clear, I’m not trying to apologize for Senator Cornyn or claim he’s conservative. I’d love to see him and whole lot more voted out of office this November, and I don’t even care if Cornyn was acting honorably on the debt limit vote. I think all of America would be better served if far more senators were retired. If that means we take down a few good ones with the rest, so be it.

No one in D.C. should be considered irreplaceable. There are over 300 million Americans to pick from. What makes Senator Cornyn so special that he needs to be a senator for life? Uh, absolutely nothing. The same thing can be said for nearly all of them.

I WANT this house of cards to collapse and I don't care if I lose everything in the process I WANT reality to hit and hit hard, I live for it. Waiting for the massive reset is harder than actually living thru it. It is like being on death row for 7 years but they make you live, eat and sleep on the gallows until execution day.

The MSM and the Demon-rats have made me so cynical now that if this was the Titanic instead of the USA I would be rooting for the ice berg.

Cornyn Votes Against Raising the Debt Ceiling
Feb 12 2014

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) issued the following statement after voting against raising the debt ceiling.

“After five years of out-of-control White House spending, including a jobless, trillion-dollar stimulus, now is hardly the time to give the President carte blanche to continue his spending spree. I voted against raising the debt ceiling because we need sensible reforms to cut down on spending and restrain Washington going forward.”

Having a smoke blowin RINO who speaks with forked tongue, is damn near worse than having to face the nobama fact every day.

Somehow we have to get rid of Cornyn.

This is exactly why I’ve come to the conclusion that we elect idiots to Congress. Cornyn says we have a moral obligation to do something about our debt, so he resurrects the old idiocy of a balanced budget amendment. Well if Congress is incapable of tackling spending without the amendment why should we expect them to do it with it? Any amendment will have an ‘out’ and the spineless Congress will take it every time.

“Didn’t this mental midget vote FOR upping the debt recently?????”

YES.

“Does he think voters are morons?”

YES. IF we allow him to make it through the Primary process, his contempt for the Voters will be validated to the Max.

He and McConnell both voted to move the legislation to a vote which mean’t that then they could vote agains’t it and make it look like they weren’t for it. Ted Cruz forced them both to vote to move the bill forward. Don’t buy into this crap. Cornyn and McConnell both wanted a clean debt ceiling bill and thats what they got.

This has worked for the GOPe for years - whip out the conservative rhetoric for the hayseeds at election time.

I think the jig is finally up.

First part of the solution, get rid of back-stabbing lying political elites in the republican senate leadership.

Mr. Cornyn, it is time for you to be put out to pasture. You lying horse’s ass (IMO).

Yes, Senator, and raising the debt ceiling is like an alcoholic having another drink to deal with his drinking problem.

Let’s hope so.

I’m sick and tired of these people that piss and moan about the direction that these knobs are heading in yet refuse to get off their tails to do something about it.
