The Republican Insider on the Wrong Side in Ukraine
The American Thinker ^ | 2/25/14 | Mark Musser

How is it that Republican election insiders like Paul Manafort managed to help a Soviet apparatchik win a foreign election in Ukraine, but failed to help Bob Dole and John McCain beat Bill Clinton (1996) and Barak Obama (2008) in two critical national elections at home?

Inexplicably, Manafort decided to offer his campaign services to Yanukovych after he tried to steal an election in 2004 from the least corrupt leading politician in Ukraine, Victor Yuschenko.

It is not at all inexplicable. He did it for money - HUGE quantities of money. He is an unprincipled piece of human garbage.

Good article.

Inexplicably, Manafort decided to offer his campaign services to Yanukovych after he tried to steal an election in 2004 from the least corrupt leading politician in Ukraine, Victor Yuschenko. Before the election, Yuschenko was even poisoned with dioxin. When Yanukovych tried to steal the election during the vote itself, this provoked the Orange Revolution in which hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians protested on the streets of Kiev. Yanukovych backed down. There was a re-election. Yuschenko won the revote.

I remember the stories going around that Yuschenko poisoned himself just to make Putin look bad. Funny.

Is any one at all surprised to see an establishment Republican operative taking money to support a Fascist government?

If you read carefully, you will find out that there was a transition from Communism to mafia gangsterism. Many old Soviets willingly gave up the communist manifesto ideology because it actually placed some restraints on their behavior. Now places like Ukraine and Russia has no political ideology, just pure power, black market money and the worst kind of politics imaginable is used to defend and justify it.

I'm just surprised that Karl Rove didn't get the job first.

He did it for money??? Your point would be inline with Pat Cadell, who as a Democrat, knows more about the TEA Party and GOP. The GOP consultants are about money while the DEMOCRATS are true believers.
