Residents in foothill neighborhoods under the threat of mudslides and flooding surrounded homes with sandbags this week as communities prepared for what the National Weather Service described as the "largest rain event" in Southern California since March 2011.
The storm brings the possibility of mudslides in areas burned by wildfires, but also much-needed rain -- and snow in the mountains -- after the state's driest year on record. Two storms will usher moisture into the region, moving down from Northern California Wednesday morning before bringing about a half-inch to an inch of rain to Southern California.
The heaviest rain Wednesday is expected after the evening commute and into the overnight hours. The more powerful of the two storms will arrive Thursday evening and bring up to 2 inches of rain in central and southern valleys, 2 to 4 inches in foothill areas and 6 inches of rain in some mountains.
The National Weather Service described it as the most significant storm in the last three years in Southern California, adding that thunderstorms are possible Friday and Saturday. Showers could continue into early Sunday. . .

And this is why people on the East Coast half at us, you should see the non stop coverage here, you would think we would have to build an Ark or something LOL
Meant to say LAUGH at us LOL
IMHO the first storm is no slouch for a SoCal storm. To me it looks like the first storm will soak up the ground to a degree and that will make things worse when the second and larger storm arrives. Looks a bad scenario to me, especially those living in the foothills and the burn area. Come Sunday a lot of people may be in trouble.
Largest rain event in three years...
...so they’re expecting 1/4 inch?
Obama was just in Fresno bemoaning global warming. He must be some kind of a messiah.
Global Warming at its worst: first it brings droughts, and now floods. It’s certainly proof that global Warming is a VERY robust theory. All observations of weather provide proof!
Oh those of us in the east get our share of relentless media hand wringing every time it’s about to snow. This is why you can’t get into a supermarket before it snows or if you do get in, the shelves are bare.
Quick. Send the reporters out on puddle patrol!
the flaming mudslides are all on the gubment payroll over in Sack o Tomatoes
Crowds, fires, earthquakes, drought, mudslides, high taxes and liberalism, traffic, and wackos everywhere. Is good weather really worth it?
I’ll trade you some cold for some rain.
We topped out at 12 degrees today and its going to be below zero tonight with -20 wind chills, even colder tomorrow.
Behold the awesome power of man made climate change.
When I moved to CA back in the 80’s people told me about the “Storms”.
They said most of the country calls it “Rain”.
Lived there 15 years and never saw a “Storm”.
Places that don’t get much rain tend to wash away when they get a lot. I was in El Paso for a 4 day rainstorm that was nothing worse than what occurrs frequently in the mid-west. Places that had never flooded in the last 50 years did so, the streets were unnavigable with rubble washed onto them and the blockbuster near my house split in half and washed away. What the rest of the country would consider a good hard rain did billions in damage and set the standard for a 50 year storm.
We have been begging for rain here, havent seen a decent rain fall in such a long time, now that we have it the media is acting like the world is about to end..I guess if you live in a burn area you have reason to worry but for us in the city its just rain, we need it, badly
Man! Complains when it doesn’t rain and then complain when they get a half inch. There is no pleasing these people.
Pray America wakes up
