Police chief claims his force has to switch to 9mm handguns… because U.S. military switched to .40?

I DIDN’T GET THAT MEMO: Georgia police chief claims his force has to switch to 9mm handguns… because U.S. military switched to .40?

A Georgia police force is switching to 9mm pistols. The Senoia Police Department says they are forced to make the switch due to the fact that they can’t find .40 S&W ammunition… because of the U.S. military’s switch to that caliber ...

The U.S. military has never widely issued a .40 S&W pistol, so I’m assuming that Chief Edens and Councilman Fisher stopped at the narcotics evidence locker before doing their interview with the Times-Herald.

I’m also assuming they have never heard of newfangled technology called “the Internet.” One can find .40 S&W ammunition all day long, in bulk, at LuckyGunner, AmmoSeek, AmmoToGo, BulkAmmo, and a host of other sites...

Do they still sell a similar, modernized weapon?

Did not say bad, just mediocre its a solid member of the “wonder 9” class but really its not a lot better than a High-power (13 rd vs 15)

No sidearm is stupendous with FMJ but 11.25mm is better than 9mm if one is forced to use FMJ

My personal belief is that using the best ammo in each, there isn’t a lot of difference between the 9mm, 40 S&W, and the .45 Auto.

I really wish I still had a Colt Delta Elite 10mm. At one time I had 3 10mms. The recoil did not bother me a bit and they were hot as all get out.

I no longer have the 10s or a .45 but feel perfectly well armed with my Browning Hi-Powers.

So I read. One time there was a malfunction. The attacking Indians knew that it took time to pour in the gunpowder, etc. Well what had happened was the rifle shot out five or six rounds rapid fire and the Indians did a Huh-Wa and ran off. I believe the pellet rifle was Austrian and could kill at 200yds.

A number of different ones.

These have taken bison, black bear, and hogs. At close range it looks to have the performance of a slow .45-70.

PS - The Girandoni Air Rifle was an airgun designed by Tyrolian inventor Bartholomäus Girandoni circa 1779. The weapon was also known as the Windbüchse (”wind rifle” in German). One of the rifle’s more famous associations is its purported use on the Lewis and Clark Expedition to explore and map the western part of North America in the early 1800s.

There are a lot of pre-charged pneumatics on the market but they tend to be very expensive. I think several models are made in South Korea. I have personally never even seen one and I have a couple dozen airguns.

I do recall seeing a video of a buffalo being taken by one of the PCP guns.

Mec-Gar makes a high quality mag for the Browning which holds 15 rounds and doesn’t protrude from the grip. They also make a 20 round one which does stick out a bit.

Also the Argentine military Brownings come with 15 round mags standard. I am not sure why FN still used 13 round mags in their Hi-Powers but they do.
