Notice white knotted arm bands. Pro-Russian death squads wore those in S.Ossetia war...

Very interesting, also it is hard to be 100% sure but those look like ak74 with long clips, issued only to Russian special forces.

Russian troops in the tiny port of Balaclava this evening. About 300 of them. Calm. Disciplined.

Well, I do think most of them are naturally supporting Putin's actions...certainly in Chimea...but look up thread at the map ...it's clearly playing out as all other maps have depicted would.

Might be Eastern Ukraine will split to Russia after all...but I still say Putin would prefer stability there over war...he'll do some conceding after he takes a good portion...then it will look like he negotiated heroically...but in the end get exactly what he sought to begin with.

76th Chernihov (Pskov) Storm Troops Division

Russian airborne. Same unit from Pskov that was involved in the Vilnius massacre in 1991. Goosestepping dirt bags.

Course not..It’s Putin on the move. Me thinks he had a good cover with the Sochi Olympics....while preparing for what we see happening now. But then it had to come to this...somebody has to stabilize Ukraine and it sure isn’t going to be the US or Europe. The new government, (temporary) has little clout or experience and certainly not the military force to keep “outsiders” from swarming in as they did in Syria and Egypt and every other country there.

Putin simply is not going to let that happen to his ports..period. Those are vital to his country....

Am trying to remember my Russian history.
When Modest Mussorsky composed Pictures at an Exhibition containing “The Great Gate of Kiev” in about 1870 , Kiev was indeed considered part of the Russian motherland. I believe the natural boundaries were altered after one of the world wars. Possibly with the communist take over or the need to have a western access to the oceans
Regardless there are some people whose ancestors have been Russian for generations and are going to consider themselves Russian and want to continue the Russian rule
It’s the ukraine who may never have felt a part or under appreciated that seems to be rebelling. Unless there has been no mixed marriages in a couple hundred years, I’d say the difference between the two groups are blurry at best. May be nothing more than poor leadership at the local levels
