Then you have to go to war now. What is it with these statements from the media and others. It is not an ‘intervention’, and it has already happened. They are there right now!

Well it would likely be a short war.

My guess is we won’t really do much here...could be a quid-pro-quo for Syria...all arranged.

Here’s what Mikheil Saakashvili (ex president of Georgia), currently in Kiev, told the WSJ reporter there (paraphrasing): by destabilizing Georgia, Putin prevented the country from joining the EU and NATO, and this is what his aim is in Ukraine, permanent destabilization.

Well, one of the big issues in WWI was the Zimmerman telegram which Germany sent to Mexico, hinting that Mexico might benefit by joining up with the Axis.

But the Warsaw Pact was a military alliance of the Cold War era. The EU is not that. Ukraine was moving toward an economic alliance with Europe and Russia saw part of the Empire slipping away. I understand why Russia did not want to see that happen -- but it's not quite the same as Mexico joining the Warsaw Pact. This wasn't a military thing until Russia sent in troops.

We invaded Grenada to stop the Soviets from building a military base there.

So by aiding Georgia and Ukraine, is that not the same thing as what the Soviets were trying to do in our backyard?

I do see some similarities. But we are not the country we used to be.
Europe is being invaded. They've had a free ride for a long, long time. If Europe wants to oppose the Russian bear, then they can do so. I say the US should leave it alone this time.
