A strange one, this. Rep. Steve Stockman said (sometimes ghost-tweeted) fiery things, but never really bothered to run a campaign, as far as anyone was able to tell....

Doesn't matter. Cornyn votes like a dem anyway. See how he went to bat for Reid to get the borrowing limit removed?

Bush never had a chance to override a filibuster on his nominees.

During the 108th Congress in which the Republicans regained control of the Senate by a 51-49 margin, the nominees that the Senate Democrats had blocked in the 107th Congress began to be moved through the now Republican Senate Judiciary Committee.[10] Subsequently Senate Democrats started to filibuster judicial nominees. On February 12, 2003, Miguel Estrada, a nominee for the D.C. Circuit, became the first court of appeals nominee ever to be successfully filibustered.[citation needed] Later, nine other conservative court of appeals nominees were also filibustered. These nine were Priscilla Owen, Charles W. Pickering, Carolyn Kuhl, David W. McKeague, Henry Saad, Richard Allen Griffin, William H. Pryor, William Gerry Myers III and Janice Rogers Brown.[11] Three of the nominees (Estrada, Pickering and Kuhl) withdrew their nominations before the end of the 108th Congress.

As a result of these ten filibusters, Senate Republicans began to threaten to change the existing Senate rules by using what Senator Trent Lott termed the “nuclear option”. This change in rules would eliminate the use of the filibuster to prevent judicial confirmation votes. However, in the 108th Congress, with only a two vote majority, the Republicans were in a weak position to implement this procedural maneuver.

And now, of course, Harry Reid has implemented the ‘nuclear option’ in order to end the threat of filibusters by the Republicans.

impose severe sanctions in loss of delegates against any state that tries to jump the queue

Like what happened with Florida? Oh wait, the GOP-E broke the rules and seated all of Florida's delegates anyway.

“the Republicans were in a weak position to implement this procedural maneuver.”

And how are the Dems in any a stronger position now (55 - 51 then) than the GOPe is now? The difference Dems are willing to do what it takes while GOPe is not. If the GOPe had the commitment to their supposed cause the as the Dems do now they would have implemented the nuclear option. But once again the GOPe just never seems to find it the right time to stem the tide of progessivism.

“Three of the nominees (Estrada, Pickering and Kuhl) withdrew their nominations before the end of the 108th Congress.”

Because they could see the writing on the wall that the GOPe wasn’t going to fight for them”

The overall point is that the GOPe is not much better a choice than the dem. The we have to elect the lesser of two evil strategy just isn’t working very well.

So we reelect Cornyn and win the Senate. With leadership like him the thinking of “1/2 of 1/3 of government” becomes “can’t pass anything because the President has the veto”, etc, etc, etc.

Stockman needs to run a third Party race now and continue his war on Cornyn and his RINO ways.

First of all, there were too many ‘challengers’. Second, lots of democrats voted for Cornyn.

This is the race that really motivated me to do my due diligence and then go out and vote. I was surprised at how easily Cornyn won, especially with all of the negative ads and mailbox stuffers. I wonder how much of this was dems voting for Cornyn?

Cornyn voted against Obamacare — agree or disagree?

Cornyn voted to confirm 100% of Bush’s nominees to the lower bench—agree or disagree?

Do you feel better or worse about the potential for Second Amendment violations by the federal government if you have Cornyn — who is an avid hunter— or a Democrat?

Again — he ain’t my first choice — but he ain’t a Democrat either.

I find it amusing the GOPE apologist and Party boys on here caterwauling and demanding loyalty and support in the general election come November for their sell out candidates. Their loyalty has been and always will be a one way street and now they are upset we have decided to use their own strategies against them. Cry me a river.

As a result they trot out the well worn lines of fear: the democrats are coming! Hillary will win! Boo! The country is in trouble, we don’t really think so but we will say it if you will vote to let us control the $$$ for a session or two of Congress.

Then here comes the you conservatives are just purist! Really for demanding tax cuts? For demanding real deficit reduction and spending cuts? For demanding no amnesty and secure borders? For demanding out right repeal of obamacare instead of the GOPE “well lets fix it...” load of BS?

Next will come well we won the senate in 2014 but obama is president so we really can’t or won’t do anything until we get the presidency in 2016, just support us!

Then by a miracle the Republican actually wins the presidency and the congress is retained by the Republicans despite the best efforts of the GOPE to screw things up and they still will not act. Another excuse will be trotted out, well we don’t have a 80 seat majority in the senate so we can’t or won’t do this...

Enough! You want to govern as a party of losers and liberals have at it but don’t expect me to support you or vote for you. As McConnell put it he wants to hit the conservatives and tea party in the mouth. Fine don’t be surprised when the GOPE turns around to see who has their back and finds the conservatives long gone on the sideline saying we are here for you just like you promised to be here for us time and time again, we are a big tent guys, right, right, same level of support you gave us...

Hell I would be happy if the GOPE could manage supporting conservative 50% of the time! They won’t and will not because they are liberals.

Cornyn voted for cloture to allow the debt ceiling hike after stating the debt ceiling hike was the hill to fight the Dems on and not the shutdown last September — agree or disagree?

“I think the debt ceiling is a good opportunity … to defund or at least delay,” said Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn, who opposed his Texas colleague’s tactics on the spending bill. “I’m for delay, defund, repeal, demolish, destroy, whatever the ‘d’ is, when it comes to Obamacare — I’m for.”

Then tries to mislead Texans that he voted against the debt ceiling hike after knowing cloture was the true vote against it — agree or disagree?

Not sure that voting for a President’s nominees of your own party qualifies as a rock-ribbed conservative. — agree or disagree?

Cornyn supports, if not pushes, amnesty. Amnesty being one of the top two or three issues most inflammatory to conservatives right now. — agree or disagree?

Agree on everything you wrote...which gets back to my original point ...I agree with him 60% of the time...whereas I agree with liberal democrats almost zero percent of the time (I can’t think of a time when I have agreed with liberals...but there has to be an exception that proves the rule)

Cornyn is pro life? Important or not important?

Let me ask why should it be 60% from a state as deeply conservative as Texas? That’s ridiculous. John Cornyn in Pennsylvania or Michigan is OK, but not from Texas. A state like Texas should have two Ted Cruz’s so it goes to show how deeply the GOPe has its tentatcles.

If the GOPe can have a Senator from TEXAS only agree with my conservatism only 60% of time then yes MAYBE I am willing to take the liberal as short term medicine to cure the hill we’re sliding down to ensure a true conservative in the long term.

I think that is one of our problems as conservatives we just look to the next election as opposed to the long game. This also dovetails into what you said about pro-life. According to the voting for the GOP even if moderate theory we had a pro-life majority in charge of the government for six years (2000-2006). I can’t think of one major advance that was made on the pro-life front at the federal level during that time even though ostensibly most if not all of those 55 GOP Senators during that time claimed to be pro-life (granting one or two exceptions).

No the focus was on expanding Medicare Part D or the first attempt at amnesty by Bush, etc. More has been done to advance the pro-life movement over the last 5 years at the state-grass roots level during unarguably the most pro-choice federal government we’ve ever had. So voting by principles is ALMOST always the way to build a better long term conservative coalition.
