Millennial generation less religious, more liberal than older ones

WASHINGTON -- Members of the huge millennial generation are less religious, less likely to call themselves “patriotic” and significantly more‎ liberal than older generations, new research shows.

Although adults aged 18-33 are much more likely to call themselves political independents than their elders are, they are also far more likely to vote Democratic. Their views favoring activist government, as well as their stands on social issues such as gay rights, reinforce that voting behavior, an extensive study by the Pew Research Center shows.

Exactly. These are people with limited life experience, who have yet to pay income taxes. Growing up tends to make you more conservative, but I wonder how many people are growing up in this country these days.

Most notably, less patriotic. If this nation was invaded, lets say China flipped the switch on the power, and started arriving by the tens of thousands... this generation would sit munching cheetos. Useless. A useless generation of zombies.

The Baby Boomers are not the main reason this country is in decline. If you factor in age, the BB’s were not able to start influencing this country until around 1964-66 (when the one’s born at end of war around 1945-46) when they turned 18+ years old. The majority of boomers did not come of age until the late 60’s and 70’s. The wheels of communism, socialism, and moral decay were already well entrenched by that time.

If you want to isolate the debt issue as the reason you can. While it was on the BB’s to not over borrow more than they could pay, the banks were controlled by people of the greatest generation that allow poor lending habits to evolve.

I tire of this premise that BB’s are the reason we are failing.

The education system, the media and pop culture through television are overwhelmingly liberal and promote a conformist and conscience decision to humiliate what they see as “traditional.” It is a disturbing process in which the people who claim to be tolerant are generally among the first group to be excessively intolerant.

I doubt this differs from any other generation (liberal/independent percentages). What is unquestionably true is that this generation has accepted the view of government as friend and arbiter of fairness. They need to be wooed to realize it isn’t businesses or racists or limited government that has caused our issues, but a massive government. The evidence is there, but getting the message out today is more difficult than ever.

I noticed this. How many of these dopes wouldn’t cross the street to shake the hand of a WW2 Vet in a parade but they will hoot and holler at a city’s pro sports team’s celebration and risk life and limb to touch a pro athlete’s shoulder during such event.

I don’t disagree with much of that assessment, but the homosexual movement is more pronounced than in the past — or so it seems.

I prefer to say, the degenerates and malcontents are winning. Throughout history, these are the people who destroy a society.

I don’t know about that anymore - I have quite a few friends and acquaintances in their early 40’s who are pretty set in their lefty liberal world view - even after the embarrassment of voting for clown boy twice. They are such self centered narcissists that they can’t believe they would ever be wrong. I think it will take their children to bring about change.
Maybe I am just to cynical.

Oh yes.

Whomever first plants their seeds in the fertile soil of young minds controls which type of garden grows.

This is mass mind control, and it works.

Sorry, I don’t think the poll is skewed at all. And, it’s no one’s fault but our own. Conservatives/Republicans are yielding this generation to the left.

There’s little to no conservative recruiting on high school or college campuses during the years they are formulating and establishing their political identity. Conservatives are there to give the young students counsel and guidance. Oh, but the libs/Dems are there big time. So they win them by default.

The usage of certain phrases is nauseating. Whenever I hear someone say “And I was like omigod...,” I generally reply with “Excuse me?” in a dumbfounded way in an attempt for them to use an actual word. Why is it so tough to say “It was incredible” or “I was shocked” depending on the moment. Granted, we all use slang. But the excessive usage of certain words and phrases tells me the users didn't study — or learn — much in school.

Those on this thread who think millenials will suddenly & simply become more religious & less gay-friendly when they get older & start working are fooling themselves.

These positions are all many of them have ever known & are deeply entrenched.

millenials want a new age, non-judgemental religion. a six flags jesus church. sadly, there are mega churches willing to pander to them instead of teaching the truth.

Reminds me of the time I heard a chick wearing a Stanford alum jacket talk about her medical school training and how she said the patella is “like around the knee.”
