I'd bet that Bush 2 and Rumsfeld were told the truth about that region right after 9/11. But no, they thought that America could build two peaceful and democratic Western states right in the middle of Central Asia.

Bush 2 and Rumsfeld might have had the best of intentions. But their foolish actions have essentially destroyed the West. Radical islam will emerge victorious from both Afghanistan and Iraq. This is a war for civilization, a war that we could have won. But now it seems that we are on the losing side, in retreat both at home and abroad.
