A wealthy gay couple has decided to launch a lawsuit to force their church to perform their wedding. The Drewitt-Barlows, a millionaire couple from the U.K, stated, “We’ve launched a challenge to the government’s decision to allow some religious groups to opt out of marrying same-sex couples.”

Both attend St. John the Baptist church, a branch of the Church of England, and have been in a civil partnership since 2006.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow said that he and his partner Tony, “feel we have the right as parishioners in our village to utilize the church we attend to get married.

“It is no reflection on our local church, who have been nothing but supportive towards us. We understand their hands are tied by a higher group of people within the church.

Please excuse my ignorance in this matter but the Church of England is not a real church is it? Was it not created by government?. Isn’t it no more a religion than say scientology, although not a fair comparison as at least the C of E adopts parts of real religions where as scientology is complete hokum?

Yeah, it does, but if judges in the Supreme Court or the dreaded European Court of Human Rights decide that it violates the Human Rights Act, that legal protection won’t mean jack.

Imagine the concept of an organization called "The Church of America"

First of all, it would likely have been declared unconstitutional, but if it HAD been allowed to stand, I have absolutely NO DOUBT it would be 100% full retard liberal in 2014.

The irony of our own separation of church and state is that it really hurts the liberal cause.

For now, US churches can refuse to perform such "marriages".

I predict this will be changed in the future, but that pesky First Amendment gets in the way.

Here's the funny part.

The Brits all but laugh at our "churchgoers".

They truly have no concept of it.

I used to date a British woman and she said: "Nobody goes to church in England!"

It's true.

I can't remember the stats, but a very small % of the English population goes to church.

In the UK, you're born, get baptized maybe, and then when you die, you get a nice service in a church.

But that's about it.

In the intervening 70-80 years of your life you rarely see the inside of a church. Unless it's for a funeral.

Too bad. England has some of the most beautiful churches in the world.

So my suspicion is that these 2 gay guys just want to start trouble, and that they rarely if ever attend services.

To them, it's just a nice building down the street.

My church (Baptist) recently added to it's constitution, a clause, defining marriage as being solely between a man and a woman. I was against the addition, reasoning that it was superfluous and if the situation ever arose where a same sex couple wanted to marry in our church, the bible was sufficient constitution to deny it. The motion passed anyway.

Interesting...a "wedding" in a church where you could read no scripture pertaining to marriage as part of the ceremony. A "wedding" without a bride and groom. A "marriage" without a husband and wife.

Pathetic. The left states that they have the "right" to get married, but have never been asked to explain how it is even possible for them to get married.

I’d say they’re not in a Bible Believing Church already if they are comfortable going there, not that they’re not welcome, because of course they are, but if “The Word” were being preached, they’d either feel the Holy Spirit’s conviction or they’d (hate His conviction) and leave.

Utilize? Marriage is a Holy sacrament given to us by God Himself. It is not a “rent-a-space at the community rec center” event. The only validity they could ever receive, comes from the eyes of MAN. Not God.
