Mrs Obama’s absence means such informal photo opportunities are now unlikely to be repeated in the United States, however.

“Maybe Michelle [Obama] doesn’t like Xi Jinping - or maybe she is just really busy,” Prof Zhang speculated. “But being busy shouldn’t be an excuse for missing an event like this.”

Michelle Obama snubs Chinese ‘First Lady’ by refusing to attend California summit with the President and his wife saying that she has to take care of Sasha and Malia

Michelle Obama snubbed the ‘first lady’ of China after she announced that she would not be attending the summit with the Chinese leading couple when they meet with President Obama.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan are on a tour of the Americas, which will be capped off with a meeting with President Obama in California before they head back to China.

The Chinese First Lady, however, will likely be making very few public appearances because Michelle opted out of attending, saying that she needs to be in Washington as her daughters finish up the school year.

The move comes as a slight in the eyes of the Chinese, who are reportedly big fans of Michelle and feel her presence would have given more significance to the visit. Cheng Li, a Chinese policy expert at the Washington-based Brookings Institute, told The New York Times that Mrs Obama’s decision to stay at home will leave the Chinese ‘disappointed’.

‘They certainly have very high expectations for this meeting...There will be more coverage in China than in the United States.’

Part of that comes as the United States and China are at odds on a number of issues over accusations of cyber-hacking, disputes over intellectual property and mounting regional tensions over North Korea and the South China Sea.

More than one expert has called for Mrs Obama to provide more of an explanation- and justification- for missing the meeting aside from just pointing to her duties as self-proclaimed ‘Mom-in-Chief’.

Aside from the slight from the Americans, the Chinese first lady has received seemingly glowing reviews from the other world leaders that she met during her tour of Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico and Costa Rica.

‘She’s a very beautiful person, very warm, and to chat with her in English was very wonderful,’ said Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago.

Michelle Obama snubs stylish Chinese first lady by staying home in D.C. with Sasha and Malia

Michelle Obama will be a no show when her husband attends the China-U.S. Summit in California this weekend, a slap in the face to the Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan.

The stylish wife of China’s premier had hoped to share the spotlight with Michelle Obama but she has opted to stay in D.C. to spend time with her two daughters.

What an absolute embarrassment these people are. Who’s the old baggage in the rear? Is Moms Mably traveling with them?

No reporters allowed and since there is no longer any confidence in the security of electronic communication, even if one is the leader of a country, the true purpose of this trip is likely about Moochy verbally delivering a message to the head of China, one that is not for any American ears. Tin foil?? Maybe, but something seems to stink about this trip.

I feel sorry for those kids because of who they have for parents.

“Under the Chinese law, i.e., “One Child Per Family”, when strictly enforced, poor unborn Natasha (Sasha) would have had to be forcibly killed in the womb if they lived in the peoples’ paradise.”

I remember thinking about that when that hag Hillary attended some women’s conference in Red China years ago (maybe while BJ was still president), for people who are all about “reproductive choice”, the Dems conveniently ignored that Red China has very little...

For God’s sake, she’s 15. That’s what a lot of 15 year old girls look like when they’re not with their friends.

It will pass.

Malia looks like she’s inherited her Mom’s poor attitude.

while we can’t afford the simplest of vacations

My thoughts exactly. We Mainers think alike....I posted this yesterday:

I'll take a guess that, with security, entourage, etc etc that the trip will cost in the millions. Or, far, far more than Mrs WBill and I (and most other couples) will ever accrue in a lifetime of saving for retirement.

For a junket, for her and the kids. Meanwhile, (and coincidentally) I'm wrestling with taking a vacation this summer. We really shouldn't, we can't afford it, but there's a big family get-together happening and I think it would be good for the kids (and the wife and me).

Typical. She takes a $3000 dress and ruins it by putting an ugly sweater under it and thigh high boots.

Don’t you wonder what our “leaders” are really up to when they go on these international trips, especially when they are called “trade missions”. Deval Patrick (Massachusetts Governor) just went on a trade mission to Panana. Personally, I think he went there to line his pockets. It’s got to be about bringing cronies along to introduce them to foreign leaders so that they can make business deals which will result in the politicians getting their skim from the cronies.
