Earlier this year, the Marine Corps decided to delay the low 3 pull-up requirement for women that they had hoped to apply in 2014. The measure was set in preparation for compliance with the Pentagons intent to open combat units to women in 2016. Since less than half of female recruits could make the minimum requirement by the end of 2013, this implementation is being delayed.

How about we reduce speeding by raising the speed limits?
Wow, three pull-ups is nothing! My daughter could easily do that.
My son is a Marine, and before he even considered applying to the USMC he could do 20.
Yeah but once a month they’re a lot meaner than your average Jarhead.
That’s just kinda weird.
I know some pretty hot chicks who can do 10 pull ups.
If you can’t do 30, you shouldn’t be in.
I know some pretty tough women out there that could compete with any man physically.
No, you don't. You may know some women who are competitive with the small same of men you have met in your life, but no woman on the planet could compete with the top 1% of men.
I've been surrounded by amateur and professional athletes for most of my life (despite the fact that I am a mediocre athlete, at best), and I can tell you that men who are in peak physical condition (those at the top 1% of the bell curve) are almost super-human in their capabilities. They are veritable freaks of nature. Without serious steroids/hormones during her developmental years, a woman can have neither the bone density nor muscle density to be even close to competitive. And these are just athletes, not trained killing machines in the US's special forces.
So, sorry to burst your bubble, but if women can't manage to crack into even the least physical of men's professional sports (how many WNBA players could make it in the NBA? Not even Brittney Griner... and she's mostly man to being with), there's no way they can hold their own in combat...
Believe you’re right. The Israelis tried women in combat units, but the women ended up breaking down physically very soon, even if the could initially approach the mens’ standards for physical fitness. There are still walls to scale with heavy packs, ammo and wounded, and it isn’t worth the time, expense and trouble to go any further with the experiment of adding women to combat units.
Oh they can inject them with hormones and steroids, have them wight train for two hours a day, run and do cross-fit for an hour a day, implant a penis, and that would get them 90% of the way there.../s
It was the only time she was ever nice.
The rest of the time...
Lets just say b---h wasn't strong enough. More like c...
But in my entire career, and in the last five years I was in the Army, my commanders always appointed me as the NCOIC (non-commissioned officer in charge) of the weapons (M-16) qualifications ranges. I NEVER had a woman qualify on the first try. Back then you fired 20 shots from a fox hole position and the next 20 from the prone, unsupported position. Most never hit a thing from the prone. Even a lot of men shot poorly from the unsupported prone position. But women were very poor shots. I even had women try to get out of shooting because they said they were afraid of the weapon and shooting. But weapons qualification was required once a year back in the day. I do not know what they do now. But this poor physical standards deal is not a surprise, except for the 2 mile run. Several did run very very well, but not the upper body qualifications, the pushup and the situps. Sorry ladies, that is just how it was back then.
That they have not achieved this already points out how very, very little physical training is in their regimen.
They do not belong in a combat MOS.
On the other hand, if they have already put them in a combat MOS then it is less damaging to go ahead and put them in combat than it is to have them filling up all the destress billets and deny combat troops a place to wind down between combat deployments.
I will say this once, there is NO WAY any woman could do that. None. The 60 pound ruck sack alone would kill them within the first 100 to 300 yards. That is, IF, big IF, they could even stand up with it and start off with it. The pulling on the shoulders and on your neck is 100% tough. My neck always hurt and I have neck problems to this day probably caused by that load I carried on my shoulders and back all those months.
LOL. Imagine joing up and THEN revealing that! Geez!!!!
The Red Army tried it too, because Bolsheviks thought men and women were the same.
That experiment didn’t last long, neither.
Basically, I don’t think a darn one of them gave any thoughts to having to fire the weapon. I had many say “I didn’t sign up for this.” I only signed up to get the college money, or just to learn what ever job they enlisted for. They did not like shooting or even doing all the PT.
Anybody that cannot do 3 pullups does not belong in the military period.
What MOS were you? There were some bad female shooters in my units, but not at the level you describe. The worst shooters in my experience were the urban blacks. I was a 73-C20 in my active days, and I can still remember little Ecolango (about 5’1”) qualifying sharpshooter. She was stoked.
One time over in Germany, a black urban artillery NCO tagged along to qualify with us. Apparently he thought that being a combat arms MOS allowed him to talk smack. I shot 40/40 but missed one of the “familiarization” shots with the protective mask on. When I walked back to the assembly area, my CO said “Jones, you missed one so I’m only giving you a half day off.” I replied, “I’ll work on it Sir!” He then had the supply Sergeant give me a ride back to the Kaserne to enjoy the rest of the day.
The Artillery NCO’s jaw dropped to the floor upon witnessing my shooting and conversation with the CO.
BTW, German schutzenschnur in Gold and USAF Distinguished Rifleman. Never judge a book by it’s cover.

I also have been around top end amateur, bottom tier pro athletes.
I was always good at just about every sport that I did. Good as above average.
But the players who are even borderline pro, are freaks of nature.
My next door neighbor was one of these guys. Made EVERYTHING he did, look good and looked easy doing it.
He had a look, at a special NFL camp. He knew right away he was out gunned.
Best pure athlete I know, out of MANY.
Bottom tier pro's are SOOOoooooo far beyond what most people understand as good athletes.
There was an article on FR, within the last few weeks, of a woman on an arena football team. She was given openings to run through, but would get slammed every time. Though she picked herself up, a small human body can only take so much of that. Where is she going to be half way through the season? What about the following season.
What happens to a woman who runs into a Dick Butkus or Lawrence Taylor or Mean Joe Green. Defenders used to cringe at tackling Walter Peyton, because they knew he was going to hit them as hard as they were going to hit him.
These are just athletes...NOT true warriors.
There is MORE to being a warrior than pull ups or sit ups or 5 mile runs.
If someone...ANYONE...doesn't have the drive and determination to bring their body to the lowest level of physical condition, they don't have the drive or motivation to be a true warrior.
