The latest calculations were based on a new analysis of the satellite-operator's original data, relying on minute changes in the frequency of the electronic "pings"—or attempts to link up with satellites—received from the plane during its more than six-hour flight after dropping off radar, according to Tim Farrar, a satellite industry consultant.
Inmarsat was able to correlate two streams of data to form a more precise picture of where the Boeing 777 may have ended up, Mr. Farrar said. The initial data stream focused on the timing of the "pings" from the plane, he said, revealing distance from the satellite. The later stream focused on frequency changes involving the "Doppler effect," he said, revealing the plane's speed.
The Doppler effect has to do with changes in the frequency of a moving source of waves relative to an observer.
"It shows there is a lot more information hidden in what appears to be simple satellite data," Mr. Farrar said. The latest analysis also indicated "there is a higher likelihood of the plane ending up in certain parts" of the southern arc.

So, basically they THINK it went down in the Southern
Ocean. Ok, got it.
This is wonderful...they THINK that’s where it went down??
What about Gen. McInnerny (??). He said he had a confirmed source that it was spotted on the ground in Pakistan?
Has the general said anything publicly since this announcement?
I don’t believe they “know” it’s in the Indian Ocean.
The last Inmarsat position still leaves nearly a 500 mile circle where the plane could have gone down. It is going to be a long search..in really deep water. It is likely that the only evidence will turn out to be floating wreckage.

How has this info changed in over a week?
INMARSAT concluded that the ping data received from the flight matched that of other aircraft flying a southerly course away from the satellite in that part of the world. It so far has not matched aircraft doing something else.
CNN and Liberal Media will never accept this. Bad for ratings !

Taking a cynical point of view, one that is not my own, Malaysia may be in a hurry to get this Flight 370 matter behind them asap, before the tourist season gets started. They may have decided, by April, we don’t want The Plane, The Plane, to be all foreigners think of in reference to this part of the world. So sad for these families, who may never get closure.

Can’t keep up at work. I don’t know if the Gen. has made a statement. The whole affair, from the disappearance, the programmed turn, the behavior of all the governments involved to the ridiculous news coverage has made this more suspicious to me than if a plane just came up missing. The appearance to me is that there must be some wierd $h1+ going on behind the scenes.
The General is more of a known quantity and reliable to me than the rest of the yahoos putting out info on this matter.
Why would it be heading south
I’m hoping that this mostly ends the minute-to-minute coverage of what is still not known.
The Malaysian PM statement does not end the issue anymore than Pelosi saying that obamacare is a huge success makes it so or the science is decided, global warming is fact. The PM referred to the premise as “likely” and a “supposition”. Solid as a bridge made of jello.
Until they can show that they have solid proof of whatever, they have nothing and it remains a mystery and if and when solid proof is available then it becomes a story. Until then, it is a mystery to be reviewed maybe once a year on the anniversary, at best.
