A possible Ebola case has been detected in Canada after a passenger returned from Africa where dozens have died from the virus.

"All we know at this point is that we have a person who is critically ill who travelled from a country where these diseases occur," Denise Werker, joint director of health in Saskatchewan province in western Canada, said.

She said the casualty had been in Liberia and had developed the symptoms after landing in Canada.

He or she would not have been contagious when travelling and was now in isolation pending test results.

Great book, all the scarier for NOT being fiction! Lousy, completely fictional movie. The hero commanded the USAMRIID investigation at Ft. Detrick. The hero was succeeded in his position by a former next door neighbor. I'm confident my old neighbor would have done as well, but am dang glad he didn't have to.

The Reston outbreak was right across the street from several fast food establishments, one was a McDonalds. The Vet techs pulled up in unmarked white vans and removed the carcasses of the dead primates from Midnight to daylight to keep the public from ever getting a hint of what was happening across the street. The way the Army handled the outbreak covertly is good topic at veterinary meetings.

No, not serious. People make all kind of jokes about my hometown (SF) with wild abandon (lots of good family people live in SF), but I can't display an ounce of humor about Africa? So hopefully I won't be hearing any more sick jokes about SF and those who visit here. (Yes, conservatives still exist here.)

Richard Preston's book "The Hot Zone" is a non-fiction medical thriller. Very, very little of the book is supposition. I can't say if the same is true about the movie version, of which I know nothing (except Hoffman's involvement, and I can't stand the guy).

I vaguely remember that after that problem in Reston, they incinerated the inside of the building, as a fast and thorough means of decontamination. Such incineration isn’t easy, basically two men in bio suits, one of whom has a flamethrower.
