Per my contention (triggered by a seemingly observant poster on prior carrshow thread) that Sandy (what’s this about her real name being Nancy Shack?) now basically calls the shots throughout local WRKO realm, Avi Nelson would be on her bad side such she doesn’t bring his name up to Howard when subs are discussed.
She gets very pedestrian, prefunctory, patronizing with him.
Todd Feinburg, who subbed a lot for HC before he got his AM slot, very obviously had trouble with her. He once said one has to graduate high school in the Boston area to get fully accepted over there at WRKO - not that I know Sandy to be (doubt it- she’s a State Dept baby) but I got the drift. Remember his getting canned for calling the Green Party gov candidate Grace Ross a “fat lesbian”. Well if you’ve seen Sandy...
Jeff Kuhner as well had trouble with Sandy. His reputation/pull was so great he was able to get the AM slot but Sandy obviously can’t have everything she wants.
I’m sure she’d have Levin off if she had her druthers. She’ll like the hands-off-social-doctrine libertarians like Jerry Doyle. He only had to go because he was so vitriolic toward pro-family conservatives he couldn’t draw an audience if you asked me. He lasted WAAYYYY too long.
I have my troubles with Avi for he’s somewhat same but conversely he’s basically a gentleman w/ real classic Harvard education.
I think Avi keeps Sandy at bay pretty well by being, by reaction to hers, pedestrian, prefunctory, patronizing (with her) but with the erudite air of gentlemanliness she as State Dept baby can’t get her brand of cutesie feminist sarcasm going at.
Well Bon, you might be right, I don’t know. Really I don’t pay much attention to her. She has decided to sub I guess, and it’s clear she really isn’t that bright, well informed or offering much in the way of life experience. Avi has real degrees from Yale, Cornell & Harvard. Has Sandy/Nancy accomplished anything aside from the BC law degree and working at WRKO?
Nancy Shack is def. her real name and she said on a fill in that she got the name “Sandy” because Howie had “poached” her from another show (using her to produce his as well) and they wanted to keep it secret; the “Sandy” name may have been an in-joke reference to Jerry Williams’ girlfriend Sandy Nagro (see the Jerry W bio). Nancy got married and she isn’t using her married name.
One time I heard Max Robins slip up (nobody caught it) and said something to Howie like “people like you and Nancy...”.
Todd Feinburg didn’t get canned by RKO for the “fat lesbian” comment, that was John DePetro (orig. of WHJJ Providence and now at WPRO, where he has gotten into trouble for other things). DePetro had called Matt Amorello, “Fag Matt. Wife wears the pants.” Then the G. Ross comment. I don’t know about what you mentioned. After subbing on WBZ for awhile, Todd is now doing some kind of traffic-radio-app deal.
I don’t know if the fill-ins are Sandy’s call or not, but they tend to say other people pick them (the PD or GM; Kevin Graham is the former).
