A relative of mine in the Chicago area used to work for one of the big shippers (UPS, FED-EX, etc.) in the warehouse. He had a big screen TV (rear projection in those days)in every room except kitchen and bathroom. His wife found several thousand dollars in a roll stuffed in one of his shoes. He bought most of his stuff cash and even though he just worked in a shipping facility, he and his wife both drove new cars (got a new Durango the first year they came out) and they lived in a ~3,600 sq ft house.
I just racked it up to “the chicago way”.
EXACTLY! These jobs will be filled immediately.
One guarantee....the NEW Drivers will NEVER walk off the job for a 90-minute protest.
UPS better be ready for 230 families worth of pissed off people. They may need to “armor up” the trucks.
NEW EMPLOYEES. Not necessarily Drivers. Sorry.
If I ever did something like this, my wife would not be mad at UPS. She’d be mad at me.
Even though union is spelled with and 'i', there is no "I" as individual in their collective.
Most conservatives take great pride in themselves are individuals and individually responsible for themselves and their families.
Don’t know anything about NY (I’m guess it is not a right-to-work state, but don’t know) or UPS. Do you know if all the new workers will be required to join the Teamsters Union, too? If not, I see that as a plus.
good on them :)
Expect much thuggery.
“union activist Jairo Reyes”
The EEO lawsuit is forthcoming.
Hillarious!
Sucker bet.
No, I believe he works for the rival IPS, with their big GREEN trucks.....
Ronald Reagan is smiling...
The flip side is that there will be 250 new workers and their families provided with opportunity and a future.
Unexpected Happens.
Drivers are well paid but the bottom rungs at UPS are the pits. I did it for a summer. 3 1/2 hour shift unloading trucks for peanuts. There is no way to do the job safely in the time allotted when the packages are heavy.
So the dispute could have been over him taking longer than allotted and UPS refusing to acknowledge the time — my grandpa has a story about when he was a driver doing a route in [rural] Idaho where simply driving it could take longer than the allocated time (when he took the supervisor on a ride-along the guy never gave him trouble again… might have had to do having a delivery where the road was two feet from a cliff-like drop on the passenger's side).
Think of the freedom they will now have to pursue other interests, start their own businesses, spend more time with the family. This is a good thing, right? They are no longer locked in to some day-to-day grind.
They were fired for walking off their job.
Jairo Reyes is the union.
” Waking off the job is a little more than simply protesting.”
I’ll say.......
Exactly, they will do nothing because the replacement worker will be Union employees. All Unions care about is Membership numbers and dues- this is directly at odds with the rank and file.
