The phrase a few students decided to wear to class on a T-shirt sparked a social media blitz at a local high school. The matching shirts share one controversial message.
"I just made it say 'Gay Day is not OK,' because I don't believe that it's OK," Oregon City High School student Alex Borho said.
He and just a few of his friends wore the shirts at the school where there are more than 2,000 students.
For some there, today was a day of silence. It's part of a national movement that only about 40 kids at Oregon City High School participated in.
It ends the much larger unity week that all the students there partake in. It's meant to be a time of dropping labels and breaking down social barriers.
"I don't have a big problem with gay people. It's just when they start parading around the school about how we have a day of silence for gays, lesbians and transvestites," Borho said. "We don't have a straight day."
Borho said he doesn't like the message associated with the day, intended to draw attention to bullying of gay students.
Other kids weren't staying silent about the shirts.
"I was just really sad because I take pride in this school," senior Justin Low said. "We're all students here and we're all trying to accomplish the same things: get through the four years, graduate and hopefully set ourselves for a bright future."
He's on the student council and helps organize unity week which, up until Friday, went as planned.
"It was just really sad because it's the last day of unity week and people took it the wrong way," he said.
Low and other students spent Friday evening setting up for a fundraiser for a classmate hurt in a car crash. That's how he wants his school represented: As students always willing to look out for one another, and not by five words on a T-shirt.
"That doesn't reflect our school, our student body or our school and community," Low said.
The kids who wore the shirts said they had heard from other students who support their freedom of speech. They said they would choose to wear them again.
I suspect the kids that wore those shirts are in the minority and will soon feel what bullying is all about.
They'll be lucky if the tolerance team doesn't kill them.
A day of silence for extinctionists day. How appropriate!
“Libs confuse tolerance with acceptance.” Yes and their goal is domination by forcing not just acceptance but approval. It is all about domination not tolerance, not acceptance or even approval.
Please don't give them any ideas. I am worried about them promoting promiscuous sex with adults.
I was all for my students participating in the Day of Silence ... particularly the ones who never shut up. That aside, it actually went off without any problems in my classes. Mostly, it was the “good” kids participating, some even having some kind of tape over their mouths (which was a bit much, since they were given a bracelet when they made a donation). Most of the troublemakers cut school early because of Easter/Passover break starting today. (Yeah, they just call it Spring Break, but we know better.)
God bless these kids. Standing up for a moral standard.

I think conservatives are too distracted by the sexual perversion angle that makes Homosexuality evil...
If it was just deviate sexual behavior then many conservatives that fall on the libertarian spectrum of the ideology wouldn’t have a problem. I’m solidly conservative and a christian but my own sexual behavior is probably not something I could pass any conservative litmus tests on.
The problem with Homosexuality is actually NOT their sexual behavior. It is everything else:
Convincing the world that children don’t need both a mother and a father being the greatest societal poison.
Gay’s want to adopt and/or convert mothers and fathers in normal heterosexual relationships & families to turn to homosexuality as an alternative lifestyle when the normal marriage is on the rocks. All most all children raised by Gay’s are from one of the partners previous straight marriage.
Gay’s prey on failed straight marriages because it is their easiest route to children.
This really is about the children.
Or to put it more succinctly...if the gays are right, then the Bible is wrong.
And if they are winning the battle of public opinion, it doesn’t bode well. And that is why the Left and anti-Christians have embraced the gay agenda, they know it is the best weapon with which to destroy Judeo-Christian Western society.
I think the problem is the sexual behavior which results in everything else, just as the problem with the immoral behavior of heterosexuals is the sex which results in everything else ...
the spreading of disease
the welfare dependency
the illegitimate children
the demand for free contraceptives and abortion
the “Mommy’s new boyfriend” abuse and murder
the infertility “epidemic”
etc.
The whole point is the sexual behavior - everything else is results - and therefore, the sexual behavior is the problem.
So 2 women living together who never have sex but are otherwise “a couple” raising one of the women’s children is ok?
Men and women have been having deviate sexual behavior with members of the same sex for thousands of years. But what has been occurring in the western world for the last 30 years is brand new. Never before have gays attempted to simulate a heterosexual family so openly and completely.
Liberals cannot destroy our society without replacing it with nothing. Their drive for “equality” is the first step. Convince our children that gay families are equal to straight families. The next step is supremacy.
Focus on the family.
You could describe that as, "A single woman with children and a female roommate to help pay the bills."
Is this ideal? No, it isn't. Children should be reared by their mother and father. However, the situation you describe isn't about homosexuality. Unless the children's father died, it's about poor choices (by man or woman) made in one or more heterosexual relationships.
