Russia Tests Multi-Warhead ICBM

Russia’s military carried out a flight test of a new multi-warhead intercontinental ballistic missile on Monday amid growing tensions with the United States over the crisis in Ukraine.

The SS-27 Mod 2 road-mobile ICBM was launched around 2:40 a.m. EST from Russia’s Plesetsk launch facility, located about 500 miles north of Moscow.

“The main purpose of the launch is to validate the reliability of a batch of this class of missiles made at the Votkinsk Plant,” Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Yegorov told state-run Interfax-AVN.

An unspecified number of simulated nuclear warheads landed at an impact range on the Kura test range on the Kamchatka Peninsula, in the Russian Far East, Yegorov said. The distance is around 3,500 miles.

Probably 4-5 “Active” Warheads, the missle could contain ANY number of “Fake” dummy warheads that could easily be swapped out with real warheads and vice versa...

So if it contained 12 for instance over half would be “dummies” of course if actual war breaks out do you really think they wouldn’t increase that percentage to over 80%....

The idea behind “Dummy warheads” is not only to freak out the radar but if there ever is a laser missle defense system you have a higher chance of getting more through the more dummies you use and you can always “claim” that the dummies onthe missle are just dummies and not actual warheads...

It is a warning. Russian force doctrine is that if a nuclear armed power attacks them with conventional weapons, they will respond with atomic weapons.

Unfortunately, we have to keep in mind too that, for good or ill, there have been purges in the Missile Wings. The people I knew in that line of work years ago took great pride in their readiness state, whether their mission be via missile or bomber (even after the USSR fell apart), and it is difficult to conceive that their units would have slid as far as is being claimed.

But then, there have been a lot of changes, and a new generation has the keys.
