Nevada GOP drops platforms against abortions, gay marriage, endorses Sandoval

Amid raucous debate, Nevada Republican Party conventioneers on Saturday stripped opposition to gay marriage and abortion from the party platform and endorsed Gov. Brian Sandoval for governor in the June 10 primary despite misgivings by conservatives, his criticism of the process and his absence from the meeting.

The convention also backed Sue Lowden for lieutenant governor over state Sen. Mark Hutchison, R-Las Vegas, who was endorsed by Sandoval and who also spurned the party’s move to endorse candidates before the primary.

A nominating committee proposed more than three dozen pre-primary endorsements, although the panel decided against recommending anybody in the gubernatorial race, including Sandoval. The governor was still able to be endorsed by delegates, who cast secret ballots on each race whether or not a recommendation was made.

Indeed. Why should ANYONE vote for them? If libs want liberalism, they already have the Democratic party. A GOP that completely resembles the Dems is completely unnecessary.

Does that mean they’ve officially endorsed homosexuality and abortions or does it mean that they have no “official” position on these issues?

Being politics, they don't have to "endorse", all they have to do is cease to oppose. That is all the support they need to admit to, and still see victory for those left wing/libertarian goals.

Remember, Ted Kennedy was "personally" pro-life.

“Despite all the opposition, it is time for a third party.”

I am first and foremost a social/morale conservative. When the GOP drops even the “pretense” of social conservatism...then it is time for me to go elsewhere. Ronald Reagan was once a Democrat and said of that party, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, it left me.” That is how I feel. The GOP has left me.

Plus, when libertarians (libertines) like Ron Paul are actually considered potential serious candidates for the GOP nomination....that also means the party has left me.

In the ill advised move to appeal to a “broader” group, the GOP is going to lose its socially conservative base.

I have trouble seeing how they think they’re now going to gain enough liberal voters to make up for the exodus of social conservatives. The true libs are going to stay Democrat no matter what. Why would a lib vote for the offbrand liberal party when they can vote for the name brand liberal party instead?

Ditto. The Nevada GOP doesn’t want Social Conservatives vote.

Last, this won’t stop the Nevada media from asking its state GOP politicians abortion questions.

Rush has been saying for years that at the top the Republicans are ashamed of being pro-life, pro marriage. That the wives of the Republican elite want pro-life gone, but they won’t broadcast that.

Watch the Pub party implode. My guess is, the TEA party stands to make too many gains this year, and what the elite pubs don’t want people to know is they would rather the Dems win than the TEA party - they can make deals with the Dems to keep their gravy trains going, but on principle the TEA Party will shut the obscene spending going on now down.

So why wouldn’t they sabotage things, especially in the state where the TEA party just demonstrated a lot of muscle?

Better yet, send neither any candidate nor the state-level party appartchiks any money.

Even better, tape a brick to the Return Postage-Guaranteed donation remittal envelope.

Then why don’t they become Democrat elite instead? I’ve never understood this.

I’ve stopped donating to the Republicans. Maybe I should start sending back the donation envelopes with a letter inside, stating that I will only support a party with principles. Politicians may think this is nothing more than a game of football, where the only difference between the teams is the color of the uniforms, but that isn’t what voters are looking for.

I would actually like to keep my freedom. I would actually like for the mores that have developed over thousands of years to be preserved—there are strong reasons for them to exist.

Also, I would like to see politicians represent the voters, not themselves.

Because they have the money cooked up to come THEIR way. It's competition over taxpayer money.

The Dems have it coming through their contacts, the Repubs through theirs. It's all a club, and we are the patsies. And the MSM is somehow in bed with it all, keeping it going.

It's like BOReilly says, When it really comes down to it, The powerful protect the powerful.

Now on the side the Dems do things for their folks, and the pubs for us, but they have to spin more to their base because they are trying to tell us they are NOT for government spending. And the Dems lie to the general public with the MSM because THEIR base loves them to spend, they just lie about them not lining their pocketbooks with it and not setting us on a road to permanent secular socialism.

And like Rush says, Follow the money. So much of it is all about money. That's why the dewy eyed younglings get to DC, and they fast realize it's a powerful system that draws you in like a black hole. And it's not only practically irresistible, IMHO there would be severe consequences for anyone that ever came out and really DID speak “Truth to Power”.

They don't like paying taxes. That's their first and only issue.

"I’ve stopped donating to the Republicans. Maybe I should start sending back the donation envelopes with a letter inside, stating that I will only support a party with principles."

That's where I am right now.

It's tempting not to feed the GOPe beast, but the simple fact is that they only listen to donors. If we all became donors, even small ones, we might be able to push the party in the right direction from time to time. Standing outside, why do we think they will listen to is?
