The U.S. is sending helmets, sleeping bags and generators to support the Ukrainian military -- but stopped short of approving other items the interim government reportedly says it needs to stand up to the might of Moscow, saber-rattling on its doorstep.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced Thursday that the U.S. will send the additional non-lethal military aid. The additional aid was announced as fighting between Ukraine's military and pro-Russian factions intensified in the eastern part of the country.
Hagel, speaking at a press conference at the Pentagon with his Polish counterpart, said the approved aid would include medical supplies, helmets, sleeping mats, water purification units, hand-fuel pumps and small power generators.

This is disgusting. I’ve just e-mailed my congressman (Doug Lamborn, R-CO) and urged him to do whatever he can to persuade the regime to send weapons. Lamborn is a true conservative and will do what he can; it just might not be much.

Helmets can still be used as a weapon.
We should just send them iPods with Obama’s speeches and copies of Obama’s books. That would be better than us getting further involved. Ukraine should just give up every part of their country that Russia wants, and give up on getting any aid from us. We should encourage peaceful solutions and maintain good relations with both countries, keep the flow of cheap Russian ammo coming.

In a better time, we would have the strength to convince Russia to back down. As it is now, we’re going to end up looking really stupid and weak. This is no good for any American. The more we try to do, the worse we’ll look.
