Brat vs. Cantor: A Looming Political Earthquake

Fairfax County residents should take note of the serious challenge being mounted by David Brat, an Economics professor at Randolph-Macon College, against incumbent and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor for the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, which stretches northwest from Richmond across multiple counties to Page and Rappahannock Counties.

Fairfax County residents should rightly focus on party primaries in the 8th, 10th, and 11th Congressional Districts this spring. But the outcome of the Brat vs. Cantor primary will influence the direction of national policies directly affecting county residents. These national policies include: •Comprehensive immigration reform involving amnesty for illegal immigrants. •Settling of America’s $125+ trillion unfunded liabilities and the handling of “intergenerational theft” that these liabilities represent. •Exemptions for Congress from laws passed to regulate ordinary Americans, such as Congressional exemptions from insider trading laws that have helped Congressman and Senators to line their own pockets while serving in public office.

In a recent half-hour interview on the Conservative Commandos Radio Show in Philadelphia, candidate Brat emphasizes Majority Leader Cantor, #2 leader of the irresponsible left-leaning Republican establishment in the U.S. House of Representatives, comes down on the wrong side of these policy issues plus many others.

Not going to happen. Cantor will cruise to victory. That District is not going to elect a dedicated conservative. If Cantor wasn’t there, it would be a possible Democrat District.

I live in Cantor's district, do you? It is a very conservative district. It WOULD not go Democrat, ever.

Agreed. Cantor shouldn’t be in the House leadership, but, given his district, he should be in the House.

What makes you think the 7th District would not elect a dedicated conservative?

Mr. Cantor was a dedicated conservative when he was first elected. He has allowed himself to be corrupted by greed and power.

I’m not saying Brat will beat him, but I am curious as to why you think a real conservative cannot be elected in central Virginia.

I stand corrected—he seems like a guy from a more liberal district up by DC.

This from his Wikipedia page:

“The district is strongly Republican; it has been in Republican hands since 1981 (it was numbered as the 3rd District prior to 1993).[46]”

I stand corrected. I thought the District was more North than Central VA. My error although I still think Cantor will win the Primary going away. Tough to beat an incumbent with a lot of money.

To tell you guys THE TRUTH, it really DOES NOT matter whether a Dem or a Republican replaces him.

What REALLY MATTERS is that he be defeated in the Primary, for then Amnesty will be DEAD, at least for this session.

If a Dem ends up taking his seat, BIG DEAL, there are 435 Representatives...we’ll survive without him.

Looks like Cantor is getting his arse whipped. You aren't a very good prognosticator.
