Skip to comments.Poll shows decline in support for Boy Scouts

The Boy Scouts image, once defined by idyllic Norman Rockwell paintings, has suffered during the contentious debate over whether [homosexual] youths and adults should be allowed to participate in Scouting, according to a public opinion poll.
Rasmussen Reports, an independent polling firm, asked the following question in a telephone survey: Do you have a very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable, or very unfavorable impression of the Boy Scouts of America?
According to the poll, 59 percent of American adults have a very favorable or somewhat favorable opinion of the Boy Scouts. Thats a 6-point drop since last May, and a 14-point drop since February 2012.

Twenty-one percent of respondents said they had a very favorable opinion of the organization down from 40 percent two years ago.
Fran Coombs, managing editor of Rasmussen Reports, said the polling data shed no direct light on why an increasing number of Americans seem to be developing negative feelings about the Boy Scouts of America.
But he added, As a lay person, the only thing I see about Scouts that has risen to the surface is the [homosexual] issue.

I love my country, but there are a lot of really stupid, or evil, people out there.
How to reconcile the two notions?
The BSA shouldn’t have surrendered to the homosexual mafia. The same thing is going to happen to Chik-fil-A.
pathetic organization. The only one more pathetic are the abortion-loving girl scouts.
Does the poll differentiate between those who are unfavorable toward the Scouts because they “discriminate” against homos and those whose favorability dropped because they partially caved to the homos? Sounds like another episode in “How To Lie with Statistics”.
I’m still proud of the Boy Scouts, especially OA members and Eagle Scouts. Anyone who dislikes the Boy Scouts because they have principles that they refuse to compromise can get bent.
Hang tough, we don’t want the nea sayers.
Well, when a group gives up it’s strong values held for over 100+ years to homofacists what would they expect.
All good things must come to an end. The silver lining in this situation is the formation of Trail Life USA, a chance to improve on and correct the errors of BSA. Trail Life
The Trail Life people seem to be doing a really great job.
From the article: “Fran Coombs, managing editor of Rasmussen Reports, said the polling data shed no direct light on why an increasing number of Americans seem to be developing negative feelings about the Boy Scouts of America.”
I’ll speculate that the 14% drop since 2012 is almost entirely white Democrats.
"the teacher was hired while police were investigating him."
Who can believe it?
Everyone I knew, along with myself, were Boy Scouts back in the 50s. Scouts, like most everything decent about America is soon to be gone with the wind.
I used to hold the Scouts in the highest esteem possible. But once they caved like pathetic cowards to the homo-fascists, I lost every shred of respect I once had for them. I look upon the organization with nothing but utter contempt now.
Maybe it’s because Lord Baden-Powell originally meant for Scouting to be an environment where an urbanized child grew into full healthy manhood. But like everything else we have somehow managed to twist that concept into oblivion.
The national scout council stands for everything that scouting is supposed to be against.
Lord Baden-Powell is twisting in his grave.
BSA leaders voted last May to amend their long-standing membership policy and allow openly gay youths to participate in Scouting. But the new policy still bars openly gay adults from becoming Scoutmasters or serving as paid staff at BSA councils throughout the nation.
Why the heck didn’t they ASK the responders why they now have a bad opinion of the BSs? That would have been a legitimate question.
You mean that the embrace of buggery didn’t save the organization? Gee, whodathunkit?
As a Trail Life USA Troopmaster and former Scoutmaster, I can back up what you said. Our nascent little group is doing great.

Very pleased to hear it.
The BSA feeling the lefty love yet?
They are now the Sodomy Scouts to me. It’s the poor kids getting bent over by the homosexuals people should mourn
They stopped having principles
I performed OA. And came within 3 months from eagle.
One needed to be a Life scout for 6 months before Eagle. And I became Life 3 months before my 18th b-day. D’oh!
The power of Media Propoganda
Gets my vote.
F anyone who wants to trash the scouts for standing up for what is right, and more importantly the safety of the individual boy scouts.
NAMLA couldn’t have better fellow travelers...
Do the Boy Scouts have principles they refuse to compromise?
Because too might have answered, "Because the TV told me to."
I will never again support the BSA in any way. Former Eagle Scout.
It is understood that this is an unstable, temporary step until the BSA "goes all the way" and allows homosexual adult leaders. Within a year scouts claiming to be homosexual will turn eighteen and apply to be adult leaders. The BSA will have no coherent argument to deny them.
Furthermore, the new policy was designed to destroy the defense which the Scouts successfully used years ago to restrict homosexuals from leadership. That was the argument that a private organization could vindicate its own uniformly applied membership principles. Now the BSA can't say that anymore.
It seems to me that the BSA compromised their principles severely, not to mention, as others have pointed out, failed those parts of the Scout Oath which say that a Scout is brave, trustworthy, reverent.
The real value of Scouting was to teach character and values. Outdoor skills were secondary. Character and values are rooted in a moral framework that Scout leadership cast aside when they accepted the immoral of homosexualtiy.
One of the attributes of the Scout Law is “Reverent”. Homosexuality, being one of the things listed in Rev. 22:15 as disqualifying a person from receiving the free gift of eternal life, is instead profane and carnal. Scout leadership has made their pact with the Devil. Let them enjoy the praise of their new peers in this profane world. They won’t get any praise (or money) from me.
In what way did the BSA “[stand] up for what is right, and more importantly the safety of the individual boy scouts.”?
What the Council did was unforgivable and shortsighted for exactly the reasons you describe.
My kid just became a Boy Scout after 3 years as a Cub. It was a tough call to leave him in the organization but the decision at the National level has had no impact on his Troop, everything is status quo.
The future of Scouting however, is very dim.
How many of the permanent employees of the organization have lost their jobs? That would reveal the reality of their popular lurch to the left.
I hope you also view the US military in the same light.
“The BSA shouldnt have surrendered to the homosexual mafia. The same thing is going to happen to Chik-fil-A.”
I agree 100%.
No doubt whatsoever.
Surrendering is the same as losing. Every single time.
I understand how difficult the decision is. At the troop I used to be associated with there also is the appearance that, because no boy claiming to be homosexual has applied to join, nothing has changed. To me, however, the key thing is that the BSA's teaching has changed. The BSA has endorsed the homosexual lifestyle and declared that it is "morally straight." To me this is a major change, because as another poster pointed out, outdoor skills were seconday, the primary mission of the BSA was to build character.
I overheard a scoutmaster puzzling over what to do if a homosexual boys goes on a camping trip. Scout rules say that a boy cannot tent alone. The rules forbid boys and girls from tenting together. What to do? What to do? He said, "Maybe we'll just ask and see who won't mind and put him with him." (!)
Do you wonder if, due to the BSA's new teaching, the boys would be subject to subtle pressure to say they wouldn't object? I know in this scoutmaster's troop, the announcement of the new homosexual acceptance policy was couched in terms of "tolerance," and "non-discrimination." Would your boy be safe in those circumstances? Would he want to stand out as being "intolerant"? Would this scoutmaster tent a seventeen-year old homosexual boy with a tenderfoot who doesn't object because he doesn't even know what homosexuality is.
My son was both, and his only son was also, but has gone on to be a Boy Scout with a Gun, having graduated from Parris Island in Sept.
The ethics instilled in them will sustain them through their entire lives. What the national leadership has done, under intense pressure, cannot undo that.
Our Scoutmasters know better than to even bring it up.
I can guarantee that if an out of the closet homosexual scout was to join, the parents would pull their kids out in a New York minute, and that would be the end of that Troop.
Want to know the truth? Since the faggotization of today’s military, I do NOT hold it with the same awe and respect I used to. “Married” homos sharing quarters? Drag-queen festivities on military bases? Sheer degeneracy.
As a former Cub Scout, Boy Scout (Troop 288 KC Mo.) Eagle Scout and Osceola Mo. Scout camp staffer for 3 years and former Mic-O-Say tribesman and a contributor— I just walked away this last year. The PC cancer will only get worse. Make no mistake ... NAMBLA is keen to be an involved “hands on” national sponsor of the Boy Scouts. The BSA broke my heart and they will never get another freakin’ dime from me. It just makes me sick that they chose to be sick.....
In the military's defense, they did not vote those policies in - they were ordered by the DoD at the insistence of their CiC.
What/how/when did they stand up for what is right?
BSA = homo agenda.
They are dead to me.
As they take the slip ‘n slide to Gomorrah, the support decreases.
What a surprise.
