so it was the Mormons in the rural areas who elected the Democrat Matheson and kept reelecting him for 5 more terms... Interesting eh what ???

Population of Utah: 2,900,872

Population of Salt Lake City Metropolitan Area: 1,175,905

In terms of population (and voting) the SLC Metro area is a big factor in Utah politics, much like NYC is in NY.

Adding to my post #121, Utah’s district 2 contains Salt Lake City, making it the least Republican of Utah’s 3 districts, probably due to all the immigrants and other Dem voters in SLC.

“1. Salt Lake City may be LDS church headquarters, but it is far less Mormon than the rest of Utah.

a smart guy like you ought to be able to explain that one..,..”

OK, let’s see if this analogy helps you to understand: The headquarters of the Southern Baptist Convention are in Nashville, TN, but the Nashville metro area has fewer Baptists as a percentage of the population than does NW TN or the Chattanooga area, not to mention northern Alabama. The unwillingness to accept anything less than perfection got us four more years of Obama.

That's right!

This Nation has REJECTED the PERFECTION of Christ's unfathomable forgiveness and has failed to REPENT of it's numerous sins.

That's why we got Obama and why whomever comes after him will be WORSE!

Clearly she’s the most conservative.

Somehow; every time I try to vote for the 'most' conservative; the Nation gets more Liberal!

(1) Is in favor of reducing abortion in some way (in Mia's case, ending federal funding for it), and
(2) Will not vote in favor of any pro-abortion legislation, nor vote against any pro-life legislation, nor make public statements against pro-lifers or supporting pro-aborts

...in some way...

HMMMmmm...

I guess this would be like docking a boxer puppy's tail.

Take it off, a joint at a time, over a long period, so he wouldn't be so traumatized at losing it all at once.

I know that you don’t like Mormons, and you don’t like Democrats, but, unfortunately, most Mormons won’t make it easy for you by voting Democrat.

Except in Nevada...

I guess this would be like docking a boxer puppy's tail.

More accurately, it would be going after achievable victories, and making steady progress, rather than going for the whole enchilada and losing. This has been the Left's successful operating basis: make a small gain and hold onto it, and keep repeating.

On the 2A front, we've had successes going after getting one state to go "Shall Issue" CCW, achieving victory, and then focusing on another state. It took over 20 years, but we've got CCW in almost every state now.

Getting rid of federal funding for abortion would be a BIG step. But I guess you are not interested in anything which is not complete victory all at once.

As of 2007, 60.7% of Utahns are counted as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, although only 41.6% of them are active members. Mormons now make up about 34%–41% of Salt Lake City, while rural areas tend to be overwhelmingly Mormon.

In a PRESIDENTIAL election (it's the STATE total that counts.

(You do realize that INSIDE that 60.7 number is ALL of SLC's voters; right?)

Read the thread. We're talking about Mia Love, who is running for Utah's Congressional District #2, which happens to include Salt Lake City, making it less Republican than the rest of Utah. Read my earlier posts to see why.

Hicks from the sticks = 1,724,967

Math - I love it, for it's SO hard to spin... {smirk}

#1 'population' includes youngsters UNDER that voting age; so what these numbers ACTUALLY tell us about VOTERS is subject to speculation.

#2 We've NO data to use that shows the PERCENTAGE of ACTUAL voters compared to REGISTERED voters.

#3 We've no data on how many REGISTERED voters actually vote! {Here'd be a good place for you researchers to insert that data from the last National election)

What part of "I'm talking about District #2, not all of Utah" seems so difficult to understand?

Never mind, I've decided that life is better if I just ignore you and your posts.

Read the thread.

Then the data showing STATE figures is just noise.

Too much noise clouds the real issue; as you've noted.

Small little gains: a district here; one over there...
