“disconnected from most Americans, who didn’t think the Republican Party cared about them.”

Rick, you’re the one who is disconnected. Obamacare and jobs are the issue most Americans are worried about. Social issues, not so much.

Identity politics has to stop. Enough.

Contrary as always, I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Santorum.

The Democrats stand for sex uber alles, ceaseless political correctness and unlimited government handouts, while the Republicans stand for business uber alles, for promoting global “democracy” via war (except when a Democrat is in office) and Randian objectivism, where individual selfishness is touted as the highest of virtues.

What Santorum is saying is that true conservatism begins at home with focus on our families, then how we must help our local business & communities prosper, then our counties...our states...and by doing so, better our entire nation.

We SHOULD care about American workers, be they union members or or not. Unions are an economic problem, to a certain extent, but Republicans have to learn to work within the infrastructure. The more Republicans vilify those American workers and export our economy overseas, while doing nothing about unfettered immigration, the more they sink into a hole out of which they won’t be able to climb.

Blue-collar Americans are more socially conservative than the welfare-class and the over-educated “elites.” We need them on our side!

People keep spouting that Santorum was a traitor because he supported Specter over Toomey. Well Specter is dead and Toomey opposes gun rights. Some great conservative Toomey turned out to be! Replacing Specter with Toomey was just replacing one wishy-washy senator for another.

Santorum was wrong about Zimmerman, but I agree with the him 90% of the time, which is more than I can say for many other Republicans. His stalwart support for social conservative positions shows him to be a man of honor.

It’s amazing that after the Lawrence v. Texas Supreme Court decision, Santorum was a hailed on this site as a hero for his prescience regarding the slippery slope that was to come. When he argued about the inhumanity of abortion, he cleaned Sen. Boxer’s clock on that issue, and again was widely praised.

Now he’s derided as a “RINO” because he understandably sees that the Republican party has a SERIOUS problem connecting to many middle-class working Americans. He is HATED here.

What the heck?

This man was demonized by the Democrats in the foulest way; just google his last name to see what it means to them!

I don’t care what the man said or believed before he was in office; as Senator he walked his pro-life/pro-family talk to the bitter end. His positions supporting the AMERICAN worker and his belief that we have to fix Social Security—as it is simply not tenable and will destroy the young working class—are more than enough reasons for conservatives to agree with him.

He’ll never be President; I know this. But he’ll always have my support.

Thanks. Good post.

I supported Santorum in 2012. He’s on my short list for 2016 (along with Pence, Cruz, Palin, and Jindal).

He’s taken the arrows from the left perhaps more than anyone out there. If you doubt that, look up the word “Santorum” in a modern culture dictionary.

He’s not perfect. But for social conservatives, he’s still the gold standard. Social conservatives have been the red-headed stepchildren of the Republican Party for a long, long time. We know that he has stood for our values even when it has cost him. I won’t trash the man.

I also like his blue-collar emphasis. Perhaps not as many blue-collar types have the time or resources to get as heavily involved as others. But Santorum speaks for them, and for social conservatives. It would be a mistake for the Republican Party to ignore or berate him or his constituents. Just saying.

American Worker? You seem to be pro union or in one.

Do you oppose right to work states too? I was in a number of unions. I hated them and got out as soon as possible. Small business are good and I think there needs to be more But big companies are what make us rich. I never had a decent job working for a poor man nor a small business.

I see you as a social conservative (as am I ). But you don’t seem to understand fiscal conservativism, nor want to.
