Schadenfreude: MSNBC Anchor Sees His Health Insurance Premiums Skyrocket Under ObamaCare
Downtrend.com ^ | November 2013 | Brian Carey

Posted on 05/05/2014 11:43:03 AM PDT by Baynative

“Thnx Mr. President!”

That’s what former MSNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan had to say to President Obama in a tweet earlier today.

He was saying it sarcastically. You know, like when you say “thanks a lot!” to someone who bumps into you in the hallway, causing you to spill your coffee all over your clothes.

But Mr. Ratigan experienced something far worse than a coffee spill. His health insurance premiums are skyrocketing thanks to the hilariously named Affordable Care Act.

What happened? Well, for starters, Ratigan had catastrophic health insurance coverage. That means that he sees himself as pretty healthy and is willing to pay out-of-pocket for routine medical expenses. However, if he gets hit by the proverbial beer truck and ends up with tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills, he’s covered.

That was under his old plan, which cost him $170 per month.

His old plan, of course, wasn’t good enough for President Obama. Yes, this is the same President Obama who promised everyone with a straight face that they could their existing health insurance under his new health care law.

Ratigan found out, much like millions of others are finding out, that the President lied when he made that promise.

Now, Ratigan’s new health insurance premium is $600 per month.

“Thnx Mr. President!”

We might almost feel sorry for the guy if he wasn’t a former MSNBC host who used to berate Republican guests.

Now, he is learning the hard way that those Republicans were promoting ideas that would save him, and millions of other Americans, a lot of money.

Hey, some people learn the hard way.

I doubt many have since he's on MSNBC.

It was hard to avoid him on NBC-owned networks, as well as the old msnbc.com and also the non-affiliated NYT. I realize that some here won't look at any of that but I prefer to discern useful information on an case-by-case basis.

Old article, BTW.

But, his dismay at being duped by the community organizer is worth giggling over for a moment or two, I think.

I honestly feel no sympathy for those who've acted as cheerleaders all along. These folks belittled conservatives and Tea Party members, calling us "Chicken Littles."

You made your bed; now sleep in it.

“No. Insurance premiums aren’t taxes and they aren’t deductible from your income taxes.”

I deduct my insurance premiums from my Federal Taxes. That’s providing you meet the 7 or 10 percent of your income requirement.

Hey, Dylan! Did you like your plan? Of course you did. Well, the good news is that you get to keep your plan!

Well, no you don't. It's a different plan and it costs four times as much. Your old plan must have been "substandard". Yeah, that's the ticket.

Just a thought, since this was argued in the Supreme Court as a tax, will everyone be able to deduct the cost of the insurance premium from their income tax like we do our federal and state tax bill, Medicare and Social Security taxes?

The premiums aren's the tax. The penalty for not signing up is what's falsely being called a tax.

Reminds me of an old joke.....

Two Republicans in front of a Democrat firing squad....

First GOPer: "Hey! Aren't you guys supposed to offer us a cigarette?"

Second GOPer, whispering: "Shhh! Don't make trouble."

The GOP “leadership” needs to be asked how they’d comment on that joke. Spineless bast..ds.

Dylan Ratigan, the MSNBC’er needs to hold on...he hasn’t seen anything yet. Wait until this October when he gets his notice explaining his premium starting January 2015.

Of course Obama may, by overlord executive action, order the Exchange insurers to delay mailing those notice until after the November election. He’s already decreed that the 2015 rates will not be posted to the Obamacare exchange website until after the November election...so that folks won’t see that shopping around won’t allow them to escape the premium increases.

The premium for insurance was not the tax, the tax was the penalty for NOT buying insurance.

“The premium for insurance was not the tax, the tax was the penalty for NOT buying insurance.”

I don’t think so; the Supreme Court acknowledged that the law was changing the relationship between the government and the citizens, and that the only way the government could force someone to buy something was via a “tax” (in the same manner as public education, military spending, etc.).

$600 a month is a payment on a brand new 27,000 dollar car on a 4 year loan with nothing down and no trade in.
