TV airtime needs to be filled, 9/11, general hysteria, and some bad characters that used to be dealt with more harshly but now roam free...

Yep. AS of 10 mins go, it is still on lockdown, per The News Journal (Wilmington, DE).

Something must be up ... we’re still being told to stay away from doors and windows.

The course is off-base. I used to go drinking there with my friends when I was a teenager.

Thanks; I love Magnolia; it's a great place. Just be sure to drive the speed limit on your way through!

Lots of those places around here. I grew up in Dover, and have lived in Milford (speed trap), Felton (speed trap) and now Magnolia. I read a piece one time on the downstate speed traps along 13 from Camden to Seaford, and it was insane the % of the town budgets that came from traffic fines.

It’s officially over, but no word yet on what triggered the incident or how it was resolved.

We do still have a few AF Bases about but many of them have become Joint Base YadaYada. Because of my former AF Specialty I spent as much or more time at Army Posts than I did on AF Bases. You weather guys know what I mean.

If everyone was allowed to be armed on base, perhaps a lockdown would not be necessary!

DOVER, Del. (WBOC/AP)- A lockdown has been lifted at Dover Air Force Base, officials said Thursday afternoon.

Military officials said in a news release that the lockdown was ordered as a precautionary measure after a suspicious individual was reported near Building 706 at around 11 a.m. It remained in effect until 2:40 p.m. when it was lifted. Details about the investigation into what led to the lockdown have not yet been released.

Base spokeswoman Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Morris said there was no report of an active shooter and that the housing side of the base was not on lockdown.

The base operates one of the largest and busiest air freight terminals in the U.S. military. It is home to the nation’s largest military mortuary and is the arrival point for the remains of troops who have died overseas.

“Shelter in place is really designed to protect the responding forces whose rules of engagement are usually exceptionally loose”

You are EXACTLY right. In fact, the trainer told us, “we’ll eventually get there, and when we do, do us a favor and put your hands up, walk slowly and do what we tell you to, ‘cuz we don’t know if you’re a bad guy”.

I've since heard that the "suspicious" person was thought to be carrying a "gun," and was seen walking toward the flight line.

In my opinion this is another example of gross overreaction. Some say you can't be too careful, but when you're continually running scared it opens up new possibilities for people who genuinely mean you harm.
